True, but it's also universally recognized that titles are watered down these days. I could care less how many belts someone has. Casuals would think otherwise. Back in the day winning a belt in three divisions meant something. But now that there's 50 belts in each division, it doesn't really hold much value anymore.
Exactly, good post !
The point is, everyone wants to call these guys " great "..... so they drag out the (largely wortlhess) accolades.
If you want to compare fighters, you must level the playing field.
* back in the day, there were only 8 divisions
* some of the greatest fighters ever only fought in 1 division
Who you beat, and when/how you beat them, is all that really counts..... with a SMALL consideration given to who you fought and who you didn't.
All of the other accolades are rubbish..... divisions P4P and lineal included.
With 4 official sanctioning bodies, and over 80+ " champions ", somebody was always going to tiptoe through the tulips.
I understand what you're saying, but if he wins, he does get a title @ 140, and he's still only 26. And here's a little history lesson:
July 13, 2010:
Once the deadline runs out, Pacquiao will have two choices on the table. The first choice is WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who Pacquiao knocked out for the WBO welterweight title last November. The second choice is Antonio Margarito. The Mexican former champion is still without a license to box in the United States, but he is ranked in the number 1 position within the WBC's ratings at 154-pounds.
If Pacquiao decides on Margarito, Arum says the fight would take place at junior middleweight with the vacant WBC title at stake. The title was vacated by Sergio Martinez, who elected to keep the WBC's middleweight that he won from Kelly Pavlik in April. The number 2 ranked fighter at 154 is Saul Alvarez, the WBC's silver champion at the weight. Alvarez plans to move back down to welterweight and already has a fight scheduled for Septemebr 18 in Los Angeles. Pacquiao is not currently ranked at 154, although he would likely be ranked in the top 5 is he elects to move up in weight.
"Sergio Martinez had that title and he vacated that WBC crown to keep the WBC middleweight title. So Margarito and Manny Pacquiao would be fighting for that title," Arum said.
Don't we give props to Manny for beating Margarito for a vacant title @ 154, even though the catch-weight was 150? We still call him "8 time..." don't we?
You know damn well the people on this site will not give him credit for doing this, this site is full of HYPOCRITES. (that hate black boxers)
This is clearly his most important fight ever. If he loses, he becomes a lower level contender and eventually a gatekeeper. If he wins, he puts himself back in the title hunt. Khabib is no easy fighter to beat.
Only way Khabib gets rewarded the decision is a dominating performance, or a KO. Anything less almost always guarantee a win in favor of a Haymon fighter.

The racism is a shame, but Broner kind of sold himself as a bad boy w hoes and sweets. Love me, hate me, just don't forget me. He chose the hate me. All criticism isn't racist, Broner is doing an Ariola. How's that?
