Ideally, neither, but Ward would be more deserving.

Gonzalez has a good case for number 1. I rate GGG well above Ward because of Ward's inactivity. If Ward beats one of the other 168 pound champions he is back in the race for me but not until then. Ward was at the top a few years ago for sure but I won't keep him on top for what he did years ago. GGG is fighting a fellow middleweight champion in two weeks or so. Ward's last big win was Dawson a long time ago.

Yes they could fight for the pound for pound crown IF they were the same size. Ward wants the fight to be at 168 which means Ward is 180 on fight night and GGG is 165 on fight night. 180 and 165 aren't the same, are they now? GGG offered a fair fight of splitting the difference and fighting at 164 and Ward turned it down. Oh wait, Little Heart Ward is scared.

I have neither #1 but GGG is easily ranked higher than Ward. Ward hasn't done much in so long. We can't just give rankings based on merit.

Absolutely no way GGG should be no.1 P4P.

He's a very good fighter who, for a variety of reasons, is almost completely untested at the elite level.

Ward is a funny one which imo can go either of two ways. Either he is emmited completely from your list due to how long its been since he fought anyone decent, or he should go in pretty damn high (maybe no.1) as you feel there is no reason to believe he is any worse than he was when he came out of the super 6.

For me its obvious that Ward is one of the best fighters in the world, maybe the best. Even with the layoff and whatever else. However I took him off my list due to inactivity and I dont see a reason right now to put him back on. Most likely he will be soon when he fights a top 10 fighter (whichever division that falls in).

You can do that if you want. We know how good Ward is, we know about his skills, his toughness, his resilience, his adaptability etc. Its been proven in the ring against a string of good/ very good fighters. The question is whether your 'P4P ranking rules' allow a fighter who has gone this long without a good win a place on your list. Mine doesnt, ive got no problem with those that do.

Really these these P4P arguments are always flawed because everyone has their own criteria for making their lists.

it is a tough sell to have either guy at the top, both guys have the potential, but both lack a big recent win. If GGG wins in impressive fashion against Lemieux, I could see a case for p4p number 1. If he can follow that up with a big win over Canelo he'd be a lock. Ward needs to fight a relevant opponent. The whole "I was really good 5 years ago" argument isn't that convincing until he proves he is the same guy by beating a legit opponent.
