This was a simple question requiring a simple answer. No it would not be a significant enough win to put him in the hall but would look very good on his currently weak resume.
[quetsion] does a win over canelo-cotto winner for GGG entitle him to HoF status?????

Stiverne was rated 10th by boxrec when Wilder fought him. Murray was rated 6th when GGG fought him. Stiverne is by far the best guy Wilder ever fought and he held a piece of the title so good win for Wilder. Really his ONLY good win. Everyone else Wilder ever fought was rated 30th or lower. GGG will face another champion very soon. Lemieux is ranked 6th. I think GGG has a much better record than Wilder. If you disagree I guess that makes me a GGG fan and you a Wilder fan. Us boxing fans don't always agree. That's life.
I see where this fits your agenda, but quit misrepresenting the facts.Comment

Back to GGG, a Cotto/Canelo win would definitely make him HOF-consideration worthy. I don't think fighters should be penalized for lack of comp in their division. If GGG beats Cotto or Canelo he is hands down the best best MW of his era and a unified champ. A couple good defenses and he's in, no doubt in my mind..Comment

GGG certainly does not have to move up to a weight class he doesn't belong in to get into the hall of fame. He is a small middleweight. He weighed 165 a month before his up coming fight with Lemieux while Lemieux, a big middleweight, weighed 176.5. If GGG has to move up then Hagler, Pryor, and Monzon don't belong in the hall because they never moved up. The reason fighters move up in weight is because they outgrow the weight class they are in. GGG is 33 years old so he isn't going to grow heavier.Comment

Yeah, and Geale was rated #2 by Ring magazine and was a top 3 MW in most publications when he fought Golovkin. And he didn't take Gennady the distance, either. He got fúckin destroyed in 3.
I know it doesn't fit your agenda, but Golovkin's resume is much better than Wilder's.

Triple G has many defenses of his WBA title which alone will give some consideration. However, if he defeats the Cotto-Canelo winner he should move up and pick up another title at super middleweight.
There are several boxers without big names in their resume that did get into the IBHOF but had many defenses.
I don't think a win over the Cotto-Canelo will automatically put him in the IBHOF. A major reason is that those those are blown up middleweights. If Sergio had the guts to fight Triple G when it mattered that win would have meant more.
As a side note, Hagler had many big wins other than Hearns. Remember, many guys also ducked Hagler. It took Hagler a long time just to get a shot at the middleweight title.Comment

No one win should put any fighter in the HoF. But if Golovkin manages to unify all the titles and become the undisputed middleweight champion, that would put him in the Hall of Fame. And if he continues to destroy whoever is put in front of him and continues to fight at a pace of three or four fights per year, he will shatter Floyd's record by the time he retires. That will also put him in the HoF. So considering where he is in his career now, I see no reason he will not have a Hall of Fame career when he is ready to retire.
But a win over Canelo - Cotto winner, neither of whom is a Hall of Famer by my standards at this point in time, will be nothing more than another win for him.You deserve more didlos under your name

This will be GGG's 2nd defense against another former or current champ; Lemieux. Cotto or Canelo, his third.
Just 3 three fights no, but seeing how much influence HBO has over the matter don't be surprised GGG would get it.Comment

A win over Lemieux, Cotto/Canelo isn't enough
Canelo and Cotto(the only HOF out of the 3) aren't uber established at 160 and Lemieux won a vavcant title against a good yet unspectacular N'jikam
He is gonna have to clean up at 160 and or move up and have success unifying at 160 to get real consideration at the Hall in mt book....he has a long way to go
But hey....look at it this way, Ingemar Johanson got in, Graziano got in and he just had one big middleweight win, the rest were wins over blown up welterweights....he keeps knocking people out whether they're are good or not and the way the media loves him, he'll get in. Hell Gatti got inComment

He is undefeated as a professional and is a five-division world champion, having won twelve world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes.
This makes a difference! And Floyd has fought 26 champs through a span of 16 years, and was robbed the Gold vs GGG winning the silver without controversy. Keep in mind GGG is close to mid 30s...
You might want to spam threads that GGG should move up whenever fanboy satisfaction has been fulfilled...Comment
