Comments Thread For: Glen Tapia To Spar With Cotto, Return On November 14

Glen Tapia is scheduled to return to Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood on Monday to begin helping Miguel Cotto prepare for his middleweight championship showdown with Canelo Alvarez.

Tapia is expected to serve as one of Cotto’s primary sparring partners for the remainder of training camp for his HBO Pay-Per-View main event against Alvarez on Nov. 21 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The 25-year-old Tapia (23-2, 15 KOs), of Passaic, N.J., also will begin preparing for his own return to the ring following a fourth-round technical knockout loss to Michel Soro (27-1-1, 17 KOs) on May 8 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Oh boy... I think Tapia is scared of 160 lbs... he even said so himself that he's been struggling to make weight for a whole year before the soro fight smh. Even roach said he should fight at 160

You guys are being silly as always. Glen Tapia is a very good choice of sparring partner. The guy is huge 5'11 with a 73" reach, he also has good power. Good choice of sparring partner, he fits a need. Cotto should get good work out of this guy who could eventually be a super-middleweight.

Stevens and Tapia are both good sparring for each fighter.

Tapia is young strong and will push Cotto, Stevens is limited as hell but he does have power and a good left hook.

I think Tapia will have a hard at 160, but why not give it a try. But he's an excellent sparring partner for Cotto in this fight imo.

Tapia is done with, his punch resistance is gone and he is only 25.

He cannot stick to a gameplan, he is like a less effective version of Victor Ortiz at 154 and even Ortiz is nothing anymore.
