Ronnie Shields, the trainer of IBO/WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (among others), expects Floyd Mayweather Jr. to remain retired.

On September 12th, Mayweather fought in what he claims is the final fight of his career. He dominated Andre Berto over twelve rounds at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather said he would not return, even for a 50th fight to break the record of legendary heavyweight Rocky Marciano.

It's quite possible Khan did scare Mayweather into permanent retirement, taking into account the continuous ducking Floyd exhibited over the past 2 years.

You cannot be serious. Khan just went life and death with Algieri, who came off a terrible beating by Pacquiao.

Ive no doubt he wants to retire, but hes not TBE yet. So he will have to fight GGG at middleweight. Floyd has to do what all top echelon ATGs did before him.

He said his unbeaten record isn't that important as long as hes healthy? So is he worried fighting GGG he wont be healthy? BH is ok and he fought the equivalent of GGG in Kovalev.

Seems like Ronnie is one of the only people in Boxing saying this.

                I agree with him.

At this point, he has no intention to come back

Obviously that may change, especially if he needs the money at some point.

Why say "Lara's coach"? I think Ronnie Shields is a bigger name than Lara.
