Not sure why that would matter since he wasn't fighting for a title? After the Tapia win, most had him somewhere around the bottom of the top ten at 154. Going into Canelo, I saw it as potentially exciting but with Kirkland likely not to make it deep enough into the fight to have a chance. That turned out to be the case. It was a MUCH better fight on paper than either of these, if as predictable.
Fair point. Mine was just that sometimes conventional thinking is dead wrong and asking if that could be the case for either fight here.
And thanks.
I also think of several of the better doubleheaders this year, some good bantamweight scraps, and two FOTY candidates on Haymon cards or related cards (Glowacki-Huck and Salido-Martinez II). HBO has had some good stuff this year. They also had Kovalev-Mohammedi and I think GGG-Lemieux is more Canelo-Kirkland redux than OMG main.
Not sure what your point is getting at but I write about a wide swath of fights. Some aren't that good going in. These are the two biggest mains of the weekend. Just being honest on what they appear to be. As noted, not sure Wilder is proven enough to consider this a mismatch but I think he's good enough to make that guess. Estrada-Marquez is potentially dangerous on recent form of the challenger.
I agree and I try to point out as many positives as possible. Far from a deep cynic. This is an opinion piece. Be lying to say these look good.
To be fair, that was a late replacement foe in Estrada's last.
