Gonzales has earned his position as #1 and wasn't just handed it and allowed to seat on it like some many others including Mayweather and Jones.
I follow those wieght classes and its a joke to have roman #1.. The guy is top ten, but not 1 or 2.. Roman just fought a guy with 28 losses..
Francisco win is like beating Rico Ramos..

Yaegashi is nothing special, how is he better than geale or Murray

The Estrada win was in 2012, the same year that Ward was still active.. Roman hasn't done much else since..
Let him fight and beat nietas, inoui, Estrada 2 before we proclaim number 1..

Guys like Ward, rigo, wlad, bradley, Kovolev have all won huge top level fights.. Roman, like GGG shows all he potential in the world but needs bigger fights to vault up the rankings of p4p

beating the #1 guy in 2 different divisions doesn't qualify as huge fights? in what universe? only reason he isn't getting more credit is because his fights weren't on US tv. if ward wasn't on US tv would anyone care about him? no he would be another ottke/darius. good fighters but were they ever on the p4p list?

          So Genaro Hernandez wasn't great?

i agree somewhat in principle, but im not against a 112 pounder being named #1 overall IF YOU DESERVED IT RIGHTFULLY OVER OTHER WORTHY CANDIDATES.

at least have a guy that was deemed a great fighter at the time you beat him to carry the designation as the #1 overall p4p fighter in the sport.

this ranking seems like a forced over analyzed pick.

                roman gonzalez is great.

that much is obvious visually to the naked eye. but you need more than that to carry the crown.

                Marlo Stanfield beat Avon Barksdale.

Who did roman gonzalez beat that warrants #1 overall distinction in the entire sport?

has he beaten a guy that was top 10 p4p?

And Roman has fought guys like Ricardo Cordoba and Amagasa and managed to keep off the floor. Almost getting upset by Amagassa was visually what?
Since when punch resistance or entertainment value are valid criteria for a P4P list?

Also, we can't judge boxers based on their performances against subpar opposition. Let's compare Gonzalez and Rigondeaux perfomances against the best opponent they have fought: Gonzalez struggled against Estrada while Rigondeaux easily dismantled Donaire (a far more proven fighter than Estrada).

N.B: I agree with Sterling, Roman Gonzalez is not P4P number 1.

No, he wasn't great. Never seen him in any P4P lists. Very good fighter and champion, but not great.

Either way, my point was beating Genaro surely doesn't make you the #2 P4P fighter so just like right now with Gonzalez, he got that high rank based on talent.
