And you are overselling because if you look at his blog, Dan does NOT have Roman one. That's a poll of several writers.

Dan went Wlad and was ticked.
dont you think a boxer named p4p #1 overall in the entire sport thus making him the mainstream representative of our sport ought to have a legit great fighter under his scalp?????

is that such an absurd prerequisite?

do you think roman gonzalez has met that prerequisite?

I thought there was a case Floyd was better than Roy or Bernard in 2001 and he didn't. He had Corrales which was just really good. I think Roman has enough really good. I don't think Wlad or Kovalev or even Ward have a legit GREAT fighter on their resume. Kovalev is closest with Hopkins but at 50 he's not great. He's just still amazingly good.

And personally I think it would be great if P4P were deemphasized entirely and we focused on fights in actual weight divisions more.

corrales was top 10 p4p in the entire sport. who in roman gonzalez resume is/was top 10 p4p?

not only that, floyd is american, has the mayweather name and background, and fights at a higher weight class. and yes, floyd's talent was visually apparent just like gonzalez but if its just about being visually great, why not rigondeaux p4p #1? he has donaire under his scalp who has two former p4p top 10 overall under his scalp in montiel and darchinyan.

gonzalez is not american, doesnt have the floyd background, fights at the lowest (LEGITIMATE WEIGHT CLASS IMO FLYWEIGHT NOTHING ELSE BELOW EFF THAT MOVE THE F UP.) weight class in flyweight.

there are stark differences between the two cliff.

Corrales was actually #5 P4P to be exact, going into the fight.

            December 2000(Corrales-Mayweather happened January 2001):
            Mosley
            Trinidad
            Jones
            De La Hoya
            Corrales
            Hamed
            Mayweather
            Lewis
            Morales
            Hopkins

Dude take it easy...gonzalez is "scum" and you "hate" viloria? Wtf is wrong with you?

yeah but why was corrales #5? who had he beaten at that point? robert garcia, manfredy, and derrick gainer. he was #5 based on hype. gonzalez has beaten more accomplished guys than how accomplished corrales was but they were small and didn't fight on american tv so they essentially didn't exist.

Floyd and Pac are part of the dying breed of boxer where they really had to tough it out to be #1. Nowadays, fighters want easy matches while still getting big money. It's crazy that Pacquiao has been on the P4P for 12 years straight. If Floyd didn't retire the 1st time, he could've been on there for the last 14 years. That's freaking crazy, man.

Gonzalez somehow, with some win, has 15 months on the Ring's P4P list and is ranked #1. He beat out both Pacquiao and Mayweather on time taken to get to #1, with Pac 5 years and Mayweather 7 years. All because of course he passes the eye test and has 2 good wins. Meanwhile Pac had to beat 4 ATG's(MAB, Morales, JMM, DLH), through 7 weight classes before given #1(He did not pass the hipster eye test unfortunately).

Here's to EARNING your spot with actual wins, and not "The eye test", that was developed I don't know when. When the heck did this "It's not about resumes, it's the eye test" thing start? Was that an actual criteria always or is this just a hipster criteria?
P4P is weak right now. that's why.

before floyd and pac could be #1, guys like oscar, tito, hopkins, roy, mosley, hamed, barrera, morales, kostya, lennox had to drop.

this current P4P list is funky.
