That's the problem with Stephenson/Quillin and Danny Garcia to a less extent. It's the problem with how Haymon has managed them. Yeah I get holding off to generate hype but you need compelling fights in the mean time to help build that hype. Light Heavyweight isn't packed with big names especially since Kovalev already beat Hopkins and Pascal.
So you have 2 guys crushing tomato cans and expect that to make this into a bigger event? It's like Quillin holding off to fight GGG and I LOL'D hard when he said it could be the next Manny/Floyd. You besting up on scrubs doesn't make you a superstar lol. Stars are born from being constantly tested and overcoming adversity in tough fights. Floyd was beating up on Corrales, Gatti, Judah before the big fight with Oscar made him a star. Manny had all out wars with Barrera, Marquez and Morales before he became a household name after demolishing Hatton, Oscar and Cotto.
You have to pay your dues to become a star and people are forgetting that.Comment

When a promoter says he hopes to make a fight happen that usually means he won't make it happen.
Why can't he say he WILL make the kovalev fight happen. He's says hope because he will come at Kathy Duva and kovalev with an unreasonable offer that they will turn down. Then the Stevenson camp will claim they tried to make it happen but they turned it down. If Stevensons promoter is serious about making it happen he will offer s fair deal(50-50) or something very very close to that. If not its just there way of avoiding the fight.Comment

I'm bored with the talk of this fight. Its like the fight no fan is THAT excited about or really craving THAT much, but both sides keep acting like there is some Floyd vs Manny level excitement about this fight. Michel, Duva, make the fight or don't, just stfu about it if you're not gonna make it.Comment

One of ******est moves ive seen in boxing up to that point, was by HBO and not making this fight when it was primed and they had both fighters. Im still scratching my head over that decision SMFH!!
"Hey! I have a great idea! Lets schedule Stevenson and Kovalev fights on the SAME NIGHT, VERY SAME CARD!!! Against different opponents!!!"
Hopefully they fired that guy, we dont need heads like that in boxing...one of more ****** moves ive seen up to that point. Nowadays its a regular thing and thats whats expected from Haymon. Im just curious to the thought process behind his matchmaking. I think of the best possible matches PBC can make and theyve done ANYTHING BUT and thats whats expected of PBC. Im so intrigued by this counter-productive mentality.Comment

12/19/2014 - Light heavyweight: Champion Adonis Stevenson has an optional defense against Dmitry Sukhotsky on Friday night and the winner can take one more optional defense. But, in a highly unusual move, the WBC accepted a proposal made by Main Events promoter Kathy Duva that the winner of the March 14 fight between three-belt titlist Sergey Kovalev and former champion Jean Pascal become the WBC mandatory challenger. Organizations typically do not rank titleholders from other organizations, but the WBC made an exception -- and a welcome one -- in an effort to force Stevenson into fighting the Kovalev-Pascal winner. If the sides do not make a deal and it goes to a purse bid the split will be 50-50, another highly unusual move because usually a WBC titleholder is entitled to no less than 60 percent in a purse bid.
