  • Comments Thread For: Matthysse Says Welterweight Move Still The Plan in 2016

Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34KOs) is still looking to make a move to the welterweight limit of 147-pounds in 2016.

Matthysse is back next Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California when he challenges undefeated Viktor Postol of Ukraine. The fight will have the vacant WBC junior welterweight championship on the line.

This is Matthysse's second chance at a world crown. He lost a twelve round decision to Danny Garcia in 2013 on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul Alvarez pay-per-view in Las Vegas

I don't know if that would be a good move, 140 seems to be his optimal weight. Given his style of fighting and size, 147 seems like a bad choice.

Agree. Seems a bit small for ww. I don't believe his listed height. He should just stay at 140 where he can finish a solid career and potentially reign.

On that side of the street Pacquiao & Bradley are the only names he can fight, unless you count Rios & Alvarado (I don't).

If he can't get Bradley & Pacquiao, he is better to target Imam, Cuenca, Crawford & Herrera imo.

agree, he also said that even now that he is about to turn 32 (or 33 don't remember well) he doesn't have problems making 140 lbs, so why move up?

Looking forward to see how he fairs against the welterweights. I see a rematch between him and Garcia in 2017 or 18.

Danny will be what, 29 in 2018? Lucas will be 35 or 36 on the downside of his career

can definitely see Garcia taking the fight then, that seems like the Haymon plan for all his fighters

Besides Crawford & Pacquiao, who would you like to see Matthysse fight next year?

Lucas should wait it out and build himself up at 140 if he beats Postol.

He'll earn a nice check with Crawford if he does so.
