Official: PBC on NBC Wilder vs Duhaupas RBR Thread

The arena holds 12,300 and as of yesterday there were 6,800 seats sold. This is in Wilder's backyard. The entire upper level was blocked out tonight and the bottom level was not close to full. Typical PBC boxing card but it was a shame to see that in the champion's home town.Comment

I don't want to disrespect Duhaupas, he showed a lot of heart, but he isn't very good. So when most people see Wilder struggle with a guy like him, they can't help but wonder what will happen when he faces someone like Povetkin. It was a bad performance when putting into context who he was facing.Comment

So you are okay with Wilder holding the belt hostage so that Haymon gets to claim he has a hw champion? Shouldn't more deserving fighters get their well deserved shot? A championship belt allows a fighter bigger purses and bigger fights. It isn't just for Wilder to hold the WBC hostage and not fight mandatories, or even real contenders. Mismatches are not good for the fans either, or the opponents (how much you suppose Dupuhas made for this beating he took?).Comment

I am no fan of Vlad's... But Wilder went back and fourth with this guy and this guy just does not throw any punches (I mean he throws very little). Soooo Wilder could afford to more or less decide when he wanted to attack.
Of course there is always the punchers chance.Comment

Yes, completely agree. Wilder has added some depth to his offense. His uppercuts look good, his body punching was effective and he showed he can fight on the inside. He dominated every round against a very tough and determined opponent. He fought at a steady pace and turned it up when necessary.Comment

Beating someone with little skill is not impressive when he almost goes the distance. Especially when Wilder's face looked so bad at the end of the fight. This guy should not have been able to last more than 4 or 5 rounds and should have never been any threat at all.Comment

I'm not wining, and my expectation is that the negotiations will go through. I was responding to a specific quote, Mr. Illiterate. Gambler said previously that the Povetkin fight should be a year off, others in the thread are calling for a couple more 'midlevel guys'. Knowing Haymon, it is not entirely an impossibility it could go that wayComment
