The record refers to retiring unbeaten and untied. This was never an issue or disputed with Marciano's 49-0 record and it's not going to be with Mayweather if he stays retired. It's too late to change it now.

FLoyd 49-0 is better, but please don't mention dumb records as a reason why he better. Theres so much bs titles now, any one is a champ. Who you beat>titles and bull**** Lineal titles.

Even if you want to remove all the other titles,he is a 4 division lineal champion(tied with Manny for most in history)

I don't see how going through five divisions spanning 25 pounds is more impressive than fighting guys that weighed 20-30 pounds more than you in one division. I don't think it's possible to say whose is more impressive because they fought in vastly different eras and weight divisions. One did it in bracketed divisions and never beat an atg in his prime. The other did it in a division with the hardest hitters but also never defeated an atg in his prime.

True but Fighting Baldomir for it does nothing for his legacy. Same in 2010 when he regained his Lineal status by beating Mosley. Beating 2010 Pac>beating Mosley legacy wise. Pacs Lineal opponents>Floyds Lineal opponents i think you would agree to that?

              • Pretty much a no brainer. Marciano's much more impressive considering he fought on a heavyweight division.

Mayweather Jr. had PLENTY of advantage to get his record.

                A. He cherry picked plenty of fighters avoiding the likes if Paul Williams, Margarito and prime Pacquiao and Moseley

                B. He benefited on a lot unsportsmanlike tactics (picking the opponents gloves, banned IV procedures, sucker punching an opponent)

                C. A few of his wins were questionable putting a definite stain on his 49-0 record (Castillo, DLH and even Pacquiao)

                D. He's on an era where corruption in boxing is one of the worst.

                E. Benefited on a flawed system where clinching isn't penalized and jabbing are rewarded. Under Mayweather fights, boxing has become a huge joke where a run and tag tactic is rewarded.

                SMH...

Who was Marciano fighting 20-30 pounds heavier than him?

There was a few, do you really want me to go to boxrec and pull out the names? Off the top of my head joe Louis was way heavier than rock in their fight. Regardless of what you think of their skill it's not an easy task to be outweighed by that much.
