Nah Chilemba is reasonably solid... I'd want to see that. Would be hoping for Kovalev after that though.

Its about time, Ward has been draining fighters to come down to him for 3 yrs now, time to fight guys his size on a level playing field. I bet his 122 fans in Oakland are celebrating over their hero's news!

No, moving up is clearly too much to ask for a fighter of GGG's caliber.

Good for Ward , he needs to start fighting atleast 3 times a year against top level competition. Good for HBO too. He wasn't getting anywhere with lame BET.He needs to fight Kovalev, Beterbiev, Stevenson, and Pascal in the near future.

Ward needs to do something with his career already.

He's going to be out 5 months waiting for this probable tune-up after his last tune-up bout which was after he sat out 19 months after beating Edwin Rodriguez which was after sitting out 14 months after beating a weight drained Chad Dawson which was 9 months after his last top level opponent in Carl Froch.

In the last 4 years, 50 year old Bernard Hopkins has had more fights and tougher opposition than the supposed #2 lbs/lbs champ in his prime.

And yet his resume still pisses all over the supposed #4 lbs/lbs champ who fights 4 times a year

I think Ward is fine. He's got a huge contract with Roc Nation and will get a lot of exposure fighting on the Cotto-Canelo card.

Ward needs to establish himself at LHW because when job beats him his fans will say oh he is a smw! He wasn't ready for LHW. So award should fight chilemba Gonzalez pascal then kov.

Bit gutted we wnt be able to see Ward vs GGG (barring a move up from GGG) but this is great news for Ward.

Some good/ great fights for him at LHW.

Ward vs Kovalev is one of the top few fights available to make in boxing.

Exposure? If he fights like he always does,he'll only lessen his fan base. You dont put a safety first fighter who clinches and headbutts like its artform,on the undercard of a mexico-puerto Rico main event, and expect him to get popular.

That guy had 2 years to make 168 and he couldnt make it, so it was somewhat obvious he wouldnt fight at 168 after having his first fight at 172.

Hopefully its not a total nobody, that Yunieski Gonzales would be a decent first test.
