this makes no sense. why is he being warned if it's legal? it's illegal. that's a fact. or if you don't like the word illegal since you are playing semantic games it's not allowed, its against the rules, etc...it's a strategy yes and its an illegal strategy, a strategy that's not allowed, a strategy that's against the rules. you can't just say oh its only illegal sometimes. its always illegal but refs just don't enforce it most of the times unfortunately. that's like saying lowblows are legal as long as you don't lowblow excessively or as long as the ref lets you do it. thats madness. this ability to break the rulesleads to boring fights without any drama because one guy just holds anytime the other fighter gets close.
Comments Thread For: Team Golovkin Will Want More Than 50% From Ward

FinanceScene...Seriously why should we as fans of the sport care who gets the slight percentage in their favour? Neither guy is a draw so 50/50 is a reasonable offer. There is absolutely NOTHING you should be complaining about. Don't you want to see this fight? Sometimes I think some of these guys would rather see their fighter dominate at the negotiation table than actually see them in good fightsbut it's not a matter of opinion. ggg generates more money and does better ratings. you can say ward is the better fighter but being better doesn't make you the a-side. floyd was better than hoya when those 2 fought but hoya took the lions share. same thing with pac and hoya. those fights wouldn't have happened if those guys demanded 50-50 with a guy that is more popular and generates more money/fans. ward should take a page out of their book but instead he's taking a page out of winky wright's how to outprice yourself book.

As for the thread topic. I don't see why anyone would complain.
A paper Champion at 160 (GGG) now has a clear and attainable goal, which is to unify all the belts. His promoter just said it -- first it's the WBC, then they're going after the WBO. That's a good goal that have set.Comment

It not allowed. Read the rules. I like Ward, he is fantastic, and I don't think his holding is as egregious as someone like Khan's is, since he still works in the clinches and doesn't use it strictly for defense.
To say that holding is allowed though is ******. Its expressedly against the rules, regardless of if it has become a tolerated part of the sport.
I think it becoming more and more of a problem, as we no longer have the referees that instead of constantly breaking fighters apart, simply physically pulled their hands out clinches, and swatted their gloves down when they would try and grab.
As to the Purse demands.
Its really not unreasonable for GGG to want more than 50%. Ward hasn't had a notable fight since 2012, wasn't even very popular with the public then, and is even less popular now. Meanwhile GGG is about to headline his first PPV.
GGG clearly brings the money, and Ward cant even argue that he is the biggest money GGG can make, because both Canelo and Cotto are much larger paydays.
60/40 would be reasonable, much like Roy's demands against Hopkins. Especially given the GGG's stated objected is to unify the middleweight division, not move up and down weights.Comment

yes lets all pretend to be ignorant and call everything even! one guy is selling out msg and the other guy is giving away tickets and doing 300k viewers but neither guy is a draw.FinanceScene...Seriously why should we as fans of the sport care who gets the slight percentage in their favour? To say GGG isn't a draw is dishonest. His fights are always sold out with above average ticket prices, and do great ratings on TV.FinanceScene...Seriously why should we as fans of the sport care who gets the slight percentage in their favour? No, one guy is clearly a draw, other guy isn't. Problem is, its only gonna get wider unless Ward does something about it, but its not looking promising.FinanceScene...Seriously why should we as fans of the sport care who gets the slight percentage in their favour?
