  • Comments Thread For: Mares Targets Immediate Rematch With Leo Santa Cruz

Triple world champion Abner Mares hopes to have a big fight in his next ring outing, either a rematch with Leo Santa Cruz or against Jhonny Gonzalez, and finally the championship bout against WBC featherweight king Gary Russell.

In his last fight, Mares suffered a twelve round decision loss to his hometown rival Santa Cruz on August 29 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. They both share the same manager in Al Haymon and Mares has already spoken to him about a rematch with Santa Cruz.

There's no need. You literally gave it everything you had and it wasn't even remotely close. There's too much of a talent desparity between the two. I'm not interested. The fight was lopsided and the action was smoke n mirrors after round 4. The legit action was only the first 3-4 rounds and then a shut out by Santa Cruz commenced. Do not sign me up.

Now 2-3 years down the road, let's take another look at it...see if it's watch-worthy. It's not right now.

Doubt it. Gonzalez changed Mares boxing career forever, I don't think Mares will be able to build himself back up. But I won't say never.

Yeah, I mean...the effort was there from Mares against LSC, he just doesn't have what it takes to beat him. LSC figured him out and toyed with him from 6-12.

No thanks. Boring fight and I'd rather see them both against other opponents.

If they fought again, Leo will beat Mares even more decisive. Mares looks finished,.let him finally get a crack at Gonzales again..

For what? You got tattooed convincingly. Oh, but you didn't get knocked out. That's reason enough for a rematch (with Gonzales) ha ha. Now Mares go away!
