Comments Thread For: Wilder OK With Not Being a Pay-Per-View Headliner

The biggest money in boxing comes with being a pay-per-view headliner. But the biggest audience doesn’t tend to come that way. And that’s why Deontay Wilder doesn’t mind that he’s performing on Showtime and “Premier Boxing Champions” cards right now — including his Sept. 26 heavyweight title defense against Johann Duhaupas.

I appreciate that and believe that is his true heart speaking, but sometimes it takes one printout on a piece of bright white paper with your name, a few extra zeros, PPV percentages and a dotted line to have you rethink that.

I wouldn't blame him for signing either so he can capitalize on this sport. This sport is full of some sharks lounging in pools and suits, many who make more money than the fighters putting themselves on the line do and the trainers sweating day and night in the concrete walls. That's why Mayweather took things into his own hands and to another level to basically cash in on the business that has cashed in on and left many many fighters in the dust.

Either way, I like his thinking and hope he makes his money.

I agree, but i think everyone involved would stand to make more money off of a Wlad PPV fight, then to have it on a Major network.... It's the biggest fight to be made in the Heavyweight division in quite some time, so hopefully they can make it happen next year.

You're for the people? You think the people want to see you fighting the people you've been fighting as an American newly crowned WBC Heavyweight Champion?! No. You know no one will buy bum fights on PPV. Deontay "Lord of the Bum Fights" Wilder. My God, I'd rather see you fight Briggs.

If he keeps winning, him vs wlad will be PPv and probably the biggest heavyweight PPv since lennox-Tyson

Wilder could have been a PPv star by now, but I think he was mismanaged on exposure... Every floyd fight for the past few years should have had wilder on every undercard. Wilder has the look and style to bring casuals once they see him a few times. Can you imagine how big wilder would be right now had he had a spot on floyd/manny undercard and crushed someone.. All those casuals would know who he is.. All during Floyd's showtime deal, wilder should have been on every undercard. Huge mistake in building this guy into a star
