According to Showtime Sports head Stephen Espinoza, WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. (26-1, 15 KOs) will defend his title against an opponent to be announced on October 24th.

Russell captured the title on Showtime back in March, when he knocked out Jhonny Gonzalez within four rounds at the Palms in Las Vegas. Gonzalez went down three times before the fight was waved off.

Gary was too fast for Johnny!
I like Johnny! My lil chihuahua is named after him, Jhonny! My dog is 0-1 in dog fights. Big heart, p4p the best, but he doesn't get it, no idea of how small he is. He got off the leash and got slapped by a big dog! I had to be a good corner man, and pump him up, praised him for his Azteca warrior heart, and kinda kicked the big dog in the face. Corner man stuff!
