Maidana is a good top 6-10 fighter but I agree that he's been overrated/overhyped.
Maidana overrated

Maidana is a C+/B- level slugger who had one good fight with Mayweather, so yeah ,he is bound to get overrated. But the guy has never won a meaningful fight in his career, although I think he should have maybe got the nod over Kotelnik.Comment

who said he was elite? he is rated properly. if anything, he is underrated because NSB expects him to lose by body shot in every fantasy fight.
apart from the alexander clinchfest, he still gives exciting fights even in defeat. maidana is a throwback fighter and that's what people appreciate.Comment

kotelnik took alexander to school so i don't consider him to be lower tier.Khan and Alexander are top opponents.. Kotelnik not so much, but then that was a very competitive closely scored split decision. Fighting competitively with Floyd in the first fight is better than many good fighters can say, so I wouldn't sweep that under the rug. Broner is a quality win. Cayo and Ortiz not so much.
I wouldn't put him in the top 5 at WW but I think he's top 10.
his fight with maidana should've gone to maidana though. kotelnik didn't do enough, would only fight a minute of every round and got his face battered. looked like a sparring session for chino.Comment

I have never watched the Kotelnik-fight. I might have to. If people are right and he really got robbed, then I should reconsider my opinion a bit.Comment

He was never nothing special to begin with he gets elevated because he was a mayweather opponent with a belt that is all ..Maidana is very overrated. He lost to Kotelnik, Khan, Alexander and Mayweather 2x. That's 5 losses, with 3 of them coming against good-but-less-than-great opposition. And his best wins are Broner, Cayo and Ortiz. Good-but-less-than-great wins. Why are people so high on this guy? He is dangerous and entertaining, that's for sure, but he is far from elite level.Comment
