I thought last year once his time away was up he would go and become CEO of Mayweather promotions. That made the most sense and replace Ellerbe. But as bad as Ellerbe is if I'm Mayweather I keep him because one thing we know is he is loyal and would take a bullet for Mayweather. Sure he is a stooge and a buffoon but if you Floyd would you rather a loyal buffoon or hire the man who stabbed his so called friend in the back? If he could screw over Oscar who he had history with before working together how easy would it be for him to screw you over when you guys just business associates.Comment

Oscar is a millionaire. If he wanted a successful promotional company, he should have invested his money in his education. Unfortunately he decided to spend his money on coke and hookers.
If Oscar educated himself, his approach towards Schaefer would have gone past ''what fighters do I have under contract." Perhaps he would have looked at the profit they were turning in and considered the change in market. Fighters are becoming more savvy and are going down the route of shorter contracts or co-promotion. It's not something he had to get on board with but it wouldn't have hurt to consider the upside of employing fighters on a short term basis: more appealing that promoters seeking a long term contract, diminished responsibility when a fighter does not live up to his potential.
I don't really doubt that Scaeffer will return to boxing. Individuals like him get to where they are by having clear plans. If he's going to make a decision in 4 weeks time, the decision has already been made.Comment

Not true Oscar said he never wanted any of those fights last year and that every good fight he tried to make Haymon refused to accept. Those dreadful fights were made because of Haymon, not Oscar and damn sure not the fighters.Comment

But Oscar is the boss right? He coulda stopped them. Oscar was still getting a check and doing blow he didn't have to worry till haymon left. There's video of Eric Gomez defending the salsa fight like his life depended on it now they wanna act high and mighty since they made a few good fights lolComment

Schaefer screwed the company over and was doing shady stuff with the contracts. Those guys were not re-upped and were pushed to sign with Haymon under Schaefers watch. So how could Oscar force fighters with no legit contract to fight? Half were either free agents or guys with one fight options and if their manager says no the fight can't happen. This is all why Oscar sued the hell out of Schaefer and received a reported 10mil settlement check. During the lawsuit Oscar and Haymon were playing nice publicly but Haymon was stonewalling every fight Golden Boy tried to make. What is Oscar and Gomez supposed to say at the time this fight is BS don't show up? We just trying to wait till this is sorted out legally before we go our separate ways but please show up to this fight? But Oscar is the boss right? He coulda stopped them. Lol true at the end but still Oscar had to ok those fights. Nobody forced him to sign off on those fights once Richard was goneSchaefer screwed the company over and was doing shady stuff with the contracts. First we had the Top Rank/Golden Boy cold war and now we'll have Schaefer/Golden Boy cold war and many good fights just wont materialize because of ego's and past vendettas.
Maybe it's good he'd stay retired., because if this is the case we as fans lose.Comment

February 23, 2011:
“They’ve got no background in boxing,” Arum, actually 79, said Tuesday of the HBO matchmakers Golden Boy Promotions advises. “They rely on Oscar, who’s a dummy. Oscar is one of the ******est guys I’ve ever met. I’m just saying what it is. The guy is really not smart. Forget just ‘not smart.’ He’s not just even average.
“I remember when we were bringing him up, we’d have to write the whole script for him. Then you give him the script and he’s great, as long as you keep him on the script. To have an original thought in his head …”

"A guy like Richard ***150; and let me say that we don't always agree on everything ***150; really can't be replaced. I'll reiterate: Richard Schaefer cannot be replaced. Things will continue to be run (at GBP), but they won't ***150; can't ***150; be the same. Richard is a man who is stern when he needs to be stern, and fair when he needs to be fair. It's hard to find people like that in boxing. He's one of the biggest and most respected players there is. Even the people who don't care for him too much on a personal level have got to respect him when it comes to the way he does his job," Hopkins stated in an interview with Bernard Fernandez of thesweetscienc.com.
"Think about it. Who really ran Golden Boy? I'm not talking about popping up in the office once or twice a year. Who was there, doing the deals, on a day-to-day basis," he continued. ""Oscar's been talking to certain people [Bob Arum]. He's been tweeting. He showed up at Canelo's (Alvarez) camp. OK, he's rededicated, he's gotten himself together, he's burying the hatchet (with Arum). Great. But with him doing all that, is anybody really surprised that this thing with Richard happened? The only thing that's a shock is that it took this long to go down..."
"I don't have a contract with Al Haymon, but I wouldn't mind having one because he knows the business and he knows how to make the moves to get you where you need to be."
