there is no one left that would enhance his legacy unless he moved up and fought the winner of Lemieux vs GGG, Canelo vs Cotto for the middleweight lineal title whenever those guys clear that middleweight mess up


Floyds not going after no trinkets at this point...only big fights doing big number after 9/12

Floyd has missed his chances to prove himself, he had 20 years as a pro I think and the only time people were talking about him with excitement was when he was a 135lbs fighter but even at that he missed a tonne of the best guys and he missed plenty of fights that should have happened many years before the date HE eventually choose to fight someone.

Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Leonard, Hagler, Frazier, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Carlos Monzon, Roberto Duran and so and so on they will be remembered as true ATG's being a great fighter is more than handpicking your way through opponents and its certainly has nothing to do with making the fans wait 6+ years for a fight to be made that is something neither of the guys I mentioned have done.

I couldn't get behind this fight at all. I know Floyd would KO him. Luis Collazo almost knocked his ass out and sent him back down to 140. He had absolutely nothing for Floyd. Just dollar signs!! That UK money was sweet but Hatton himself posed no threat.

But when the fight was made, Hatton was considered p4p number 8 in the world by ring magazine for what it's worth and the best at 140. Hatton had just come off a fight where he had knocked out Castillo in 4 rounds and Castillo was ranked in the top 10 p4p at the time or just a couple of months before.

It was not a bad matchup at all on paper, you had the best at 140 fighting the best at 147 with both being top 10 p4p in the world but as with many of Floyd's fights, it's not his fault he's too good for them.

You can't judge a fight on hindsight, you should judge it from when the opening bell goes and Hatton v Floyd was a legit matchup, as was Floyd v Canelo, Floyd v Mosley after he destroyed Margarito. So was Floyd v Ortiz after Victor beat an undefeated Berto for the WBC belt, he earned the fight.

It's only afterwards with hindsight when people slate it. But at the time he went in and did the job against opponents who had a legit reason to be in the ring with him.

I have to agree, he has not been the most entertaining fighter to watch but ultimately he always wins and the most skillful boxer by a long way that I have seen in my lifetime.

Although I can honestly say until yesterday I had completely forgot this fight was happening on Saturday which I can say has never happened before when Mayweather fights due to the coverage. Just shows you how tame a fight this actually is, although some really good fights on the undercard.

That Castillo win was a gimme fight. JLC was done by that time. He looked like a man that shouldn't be in a pro boxing ring. At 140 Hatton was legit, at 147?? Not so much. Seeing the Collazo fighters it clear to me that Hatton wouldn't do nothing to Floyd.

That's the hype of the welterweight division everyone is pretty much under agreement that Ricky Hatton was a lazy guy, limited and not dedicated to the sport with his binge drinking but saying that he did good for his limitations but was he one of the best fighters in the world at that time...
Doubt it, boxing ranking is based on hype for the most part hence why you don't see Roman Gonzalez, Rigo etc being ranked very highly on P4P rankings when they probably should be.

I know you hate him but he is an all time great and the best of this era....just have to live with some things, the guys you say that are true ATG say he is the best of this era and one of the best ever...I'll take their opinion over yours everyday of the week
All those true all time greats you brought up didn't fight every good fighter in their era either unless you don't follow boxing closely...No fighter has fought every good fighter in their era and the closest to doing this was Muhammad Ali

Robinson never fought Charley burley who was a top ww and mw the entire decade of the 40s but fought Lamotta several times but never fought Bert Lytell, Cocoa Kid, Lloyd Marshall, Holman Williams, or any of Black murderers row....do you think he ducked them??? he did fight a washed up aaron tiger wade
the same thing you did to mayweather can be done to any fighter in history except Maybe Ali, Harry Greb, and Sam Langforde....its easier to miss some guys when you fight at more than one weight unlike Ali

Not to mention Hatton was never a good WW,which is where him and May fought..My outlook on May will forever be that he was a great fighter,you can not take this away from him..He could have been viewed far greater tho,had he fought some guy's at the more appropriate time..

have you been living under a rock? Team Pac admitted they ruined the fight in the first place because of drug testing when everything else was agreed upon

I agree with your whole post..I'll just say this,all those fighters have those history defining fights with a fighter in their prime..May just does not have that..May's best opp has been Mosley Hoya Cotto and Pac..These names could have made him or 3 all time(hell an argument could be made for num 1)the thing that keeps this from happening is that none of them were prime..None of these fights happened when they should have or could have..The other greats you name may have somethings close to this..Yet they all have that history defining fight against a prime fighter..
