Cotto would have to have an amazing final run to be mentioned alongside the others. He started out very well but lost his passion and pissed away what should have been his best years paying clearly injured opponents to put him over, not taking Trout seriously, etc.

An anti-climax is not an all-time great. He would have to smash Canelo (unlikely) then do something that made everyone forget the past few years like beat GGG at 160 (very unlikely).

Agreed! Gomez and Benitez are at Tito's level. They always came to fight, and no catch weight stuff. Gomez visited Sanchez' grave for close to 20 years after Sanchez died in a car accident! This was after Sanchez knocked him out. Gomez was 32-0-1, 32 knock outs when Sanchez beat him. But he is a class act! A credit to the great history of boxers from PR!

Trinidad was a great fighter. But lets not forget what what a run Wilfredo Gomez had, he was better than Trinidad. Benitez was also great when he was in his prime.

Victories over Canelo and Floyd Mayweather himself still would not make Cotto Puerto Rico's favorite son.

There is no surpassing Tito no matter what Cotto does. They love Tito. I love Tito. We all love Tito!

Dude Cotto was shutout my Austin "****in" Trout and had to hit Zab Judah in the balls because he was hurt!!!

I like Cotto and both him and Trinidad are warriors; but on the real Felix would wreck him.

No Tito is not the best boxer to come out of Puerto Rico. If we're talking about pure skill, Tito had many flaws overall. Cotto would obviously be the most accomplished fighter to ever come from the Island. As far as most skilled I mean Wilfredo Gomez, Wilfred Benitez, Hector Camacho. There's also Carlos Ortiz, a Puerto Rican fighter that is not mentioned nearly enough, This guy went on a tear in the 60's. Many more with far more skill then Tito. You could say Tito was the most loved, but I do recall that there were many Puerto Ricans who thought Tito was Dominican, didn't do much to his popularity, they still supported him, lol. Anyway Cotto is the more technically sound boxer with far more intangibles. And no matter how you feel about the opponents, what Cotto has been able to do against physically bigger men is remarkable, where as when Tito began to fight opponents closer to his size, his skill set seemed a little more ordinary. That's not to diminish Tito, His natural size and length, good long jab (which I feel he didn't use enough) nice and solid power cross, and of course a devastating left hook, actually one of the most accurate hooks I have seen. Is Tito in the conversation? Of course, but so is Cotto, and if you look at the list, that not bad company at all.

Muhammad Ali lost to Ken Norton, George Forman lost to Jimmy Young, Marvin Hagler lost to Bobby Watts, then lost to Willie Monroe two fights after, Roy Jones knocked out cold by Glen Johnson, Jake LaMotta had 19 losses and 4 draws, but his first and second losses were to Jimmy Reeves (first fight controversial, second a clear loss). Comparatively, Zab Judah and Austin Trout are far more solid opponents.

Not only that, a loss is not the only determining factor on the ability, standing or future achievements of a fighter. Ali HOF, regarded by many as the greatest boxer of all time, after losing to Norton, went on to defeat Frazier and regained the Heavyweight crown against Forman. Forman HOF, oldest Heavyweight champion in history, and oldest to regain Heavyweight World Championship. Hagler HOF, regarded by many as the greatest Middleweight. Roy Jones jr HOF, regarded by many as one of the greatest talents to ever grace the sport. Jake Lamotta HOF, later went on to defeat Sugar Ray Robinson (among others), Lamotta's name is considered one that will forever be along side the sport of Boxing. Miguel Cotto HOF, after back to back losses became the first Puerto Rican fighter in history to win world titles in four different weight classes.
