I think Provodnikov would pose a bigger threat, for two reasons... Provodnikov throws more vicious punches on the inside, while Porter in my opinion throws more looping misplaced punches. Second reason, although a good fighter and a strong puncher, Provodnikov has one of the most devastating power punchers in junior welter and yes welterweight.. Khan speed has decreased quite a bit at welterweight and no longer has that "speed" so many were obsessed with!!!
Stylistically who’s a tougher fight for Khan?

Both have more than enough power to hurt Khan, its obviously the far more athlete, bigger, stronger Porter.Comment

Shawn Porter....bigger, stronger, faster, just as tough, rougher than Provo who is basically a come forward slugger and a bit raw....Porter is too but he is a lil more versatileComment

Dunno, Lucas looked untouchable early in that fight but by the 7th round, there were MULTIPLE times where I was amazed that Lucas didn't get KTFO by Ruslan's overhand left. He got worn down due to the punishment he had taken as the fight went on. I mean, he definitely outboxed Ruslan but it didn't look easy and it certainly didn't look painless.Porter. His footspeed is underrated and would prevent Khan from staying away from him. His workrate would be enough to steal rounds and we've seen Khan struggle with pressure guys before. Porter is also far stronger physically than Provodnikov.
Also, if Algieri and Lucas are outboxing Provo with ease, you can beat Khan will.
If Ruslan landed just one of the lefts that he landed on Matthysse on Khan's chin.....I can't see Khan withstanding that. In fact, I think he would get knocked out cold seeing as how Algieri had him wobbled a few times.Comment

Agreed. On the inside, Ruslan chews Khan up and spits him out like nothing.I think Provodnikov would pose a bigger threat, for two reasons... His stamina is questionable and his sharp punches faded midway through.Comment

Porter will have learned from his loss to Brook, just like Maidana learned from his loss to Devon
He will not allow Khan to clinch him..Porter would bedetermined to rule the inside.
There's a reason Prov was chosen for consideration and not PorterComment

Yeah this is my view more or less.Porter. He's just a much better fighter than Provodnikov. He can do everything Provodnikov can do, plus much more. Provo probably hits a bit harder but Porter is physically a lot bigger and stronger and would be harder to clinch, also he could keep up with Khan cos he's got quick feet and is an all round good boxer.
If Khan vs Provo goes the distance, you know Khan has won. If Khan vs Porter goes the distance, there's a good chance Porter has outworked him imo.
Provo has some big time punching power for a guy his size, but I just don't see much from him that suggests to me that he'll be able to get those punches in on Khan. This is a bad fight stylistically for both Provo and Porter but the latter is still the much more proven (beat Broner clearly, and while he might be more suited for 140 is still a guy with good reach and good speed) and the naturally larger of the two, whereas Provo, though he has never been dominated on points, has had a few fights where he was outboxed for extended periods of the fight and Khan has all the tools and the size/reach to possibly do that to Provo the entire 12 rounds.
Ultimately, Provo not really winning any rounds is not out of the question but might have him hurt at some point and can win if he capitalizes on it, but Porter seems like a guy who could win either way (though he should not go in with the expectation of getting a stoppage) and I imagine will at the very least be competitive.Last edited by BrometheusBob.; 09-04-2015, 01:33 PM.Comment

Khan wouldn't be able to do it anyway. And I'm not so sure Shawn has learned that much. He was held up by Broner quite a lot during their fight. Broner is a weak welterweight.
Most likely the same would happen if he stepped in with Brook again, but Brook would just win even more decisively.Comment
