Comments Thread For: Stephen Smith on Eliminator, Lee Selby and Andre Ward

Liverpool’s Stephen Smith fights Italy's Devis Boschiero at the city's Olympia venue on September 19. It is a final eliminator for the IBF Super featherweight title, news that was music to Smith's ears after a frustrating year taking short-notice jobs in a bid to keep active and maintain his profile.

Now, though, he is looking forward to taking a huge stride towards world honours after promoter Eddie Hearn secured home advantage for his clash against the 34-year-old.

That's a good assessment of Andre Ward by Smith. Effective at what he does, but nothing really special.

Very honest too, in not trying to hype the guy who just beat his brother.

The gullible guys on here who built Ward up into a bigger, younger version of Floyd during his 4 years of inactivity are in for a reality check soon.

If he can still make 168, Ward can keep the legend going by defending his WBA SM title for a few more years, and maybe beat GGG, if he can lure him into moving up. Though my money would be on Golovkin in that one.

But if he's outgrown 168, Ward is finished as an elite, p4p fighter, imo.

he was p4p before his inactivity and it was well earned. some even thought he deserved number 1 so its not like it was just hype or something

Well he chose to watch a rust-shaking tune-up fight. 2 more fights of his and we will know if he is back to his former self.
