Comments Thread For: Cleverly Sees Fonfara as The Door To a World Title Shot

Nathan Cleverly is confident victory over Andrzej Fonfara can speed up his return to the top of the light-heavyweight division.

The 28-year-old Welshman (29-2-KO15) takes on the dangerous Fonfara in Chicago on October 16 having taken just 25 seconds to stop Tomas Man in May last time out.

Cleverly stepped up to cruiserweight in the wake of handing his WBO world light-heavyweight title over to Sergey Kovalev two years ago - but is back down in weight and confident he can re-establish himself as the world's best.

He already had a "world title" shot lined up against Braehmer.

He took this fight because it pays more.

Probably also because it's a better fight on a better platform vs a guy who's more relevant than Jürgen "i struggled with Enzo Macaroni" Braehmer.

Well yeah but he's acting as if he's taking this fight to get a world title shot when he already had one.

I'm guessing he might be Stevenson's next opponent if he wins. Which I doubt he will.

Depends if you think Braehmer is really a world champion. I know I don't.

Well despite him saying he wants rematch with Kovalev, I don't see that happening in a million years.

Stevensson seems likely + he's also with PBC.

Braehmer is the WBA psuedo world champion.

Kovalev is the real WBA champ. A rematch between he and Cleverly could happen if Nathan beats Fonfara and gets himself a shot at Stevenson.

Whether Cleverly really wants to fight Kovalev again is a different matter.

Cleverly just needs money for the off-license.

I hope he's off the booze and training properly again now. He looked like his old self in his last fight, but it was all over in 10 seconds.

Pre Kovalev, I think Cleverly would have beaten Fonfara. But it's a long way back from where he was after that defeat. And just one fight at 175, against a nothing opponent, might not be enough.

This is going to be one really skinny light-heavyweight fight.

Cleverly opens door and Kovalev is there-shuts door fast

Cleverly is a joke a Tinman from Oz cartoon character with coat hanger shoulders and a weak chin. Did Kovalev ever give Cleverly his balls back? The Weak Wales wimp is a boxing fraud hidden in Wales and humiliated by Kovie. Fight Stevenson next wimp Nate.
