Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Cotto-Canelo Purses Not Close To Accurate

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya has denied the information which is circulating about the agreed upon purses for the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez showdown are "not even close to accurate."

De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, says there is no truth in the published reports which state his boxer is only getting $10 million to Cotto's published guarantee of $30 million.

That's how I see it too, although it is great that both fighters are making huge money.

The only thing I'm mad about, is how often we discuss how much money said fighters are set to make. So irrelevant. It shouldn't even be made public. Other than that, I'm good.

This is not a mayweather fight so who cares. Only Mayweather and his fans care about the purses. If I had to guess the numbers that were rumored are either false or based on money that Roc Nation is paying out of pocket because of the multi-fight contract he signed. For example there was rumor of a bonus he got just for signing with Roc Nation. The revenue will be split almost down the middle with Cotto getting slightly more. Anything more he gets is based on his own deal with Roc Nation. At the end of the day both guys making a ton of money and as a fan I could care less what the actual dollar amount is. It's a great fight that fans all wanted.
