Instead he got Beterbiev turning down a direct title shot for this charade one fight eliminator to force a purse bid. Who chooses a eliminator over a title shot? It's a ploy to force Kovalev to vacate his belt.

Kovalev offered him a career payday. He get more money fighting either Kovalev or Stevenson then he will get for a eliminator and vacate title fight combined. Shady move by Haymon. He want's to gift Beterbiev a paper belt rather then a direct fight with either Kovalev or Stevenson right now to EARN a title.
$500k plus only 25% of the Canadian TV money, with the opportunity available to Beterbiev as is, wasn't a career move that anyone backing Beterbiev would've advised him to do.

As mandatory challenger, at worse, Beterbiev is going to be entitled to 25% of the purse bid (maybe significantly more, if GYM gets control of the actual event).

Beterbiev is not hurting for money or opportunities, so assuming that $500k off of the Russian gate/Russian TV/HBO/event sponsor money was some 'OMG figure' was foolish.

Great fight for two guys with a short pro career so far. They'll be pushing each other.

WBA did end up forcing Carl Froch(wba) and Andre Ward(WBA) to negotiate a fight, stripping Froch when that didn't bear any fruit, so would hold off on jumping for joy (Fonfara-Cleverly is apparently booked for October, with the winner fighting Braehmer Jan/Feb 2016; no doubt that the WBA will want a defense against one of their top challengers in due time)

Can't wait for that day when the only options Kovalev will have will be Beterbiev or Stevenson... I'd like to be there and smell Duva peeing her panties...

            Kovalev will easily beat Stevenson.

Beterbiev will at least have a chance.
