Comments Thread For: Former Two-Division Champ Joan Guzman Retires

After more than 17 years in the pro ranks and with nothing else on the horizon, 39-year old Joan Guzman has opted to call it a career.

The former two-division world champion—widely regarded as among the greatest fighters ever from Dominican Republic—reached that decision earlier this month. He put off sharing the news until he was certain of what the future had in store, which for the moment doesn’t include any in-ring action.

“I’m open for a major fight,” Guzman admitted in stopping just short of a full-blown retirement. “But it’s otherwise safe to say that I’ve laced ‘em up for the last time.” [Click Here To Read More]

The guy had so much potential but never lived up to it. Talent alone isn't enough for greatness, it has to be combined with hard work and discipline.

pacquiao didn't just duck guzman, he also avoided zahir raheem .. that wouldve been two more L's on his record.. both were superior boxers and sharp counter punchers.

should have another L against ali funeka. i personally don't consider guzman HOF material. humberto soto and jorge barrios are his best wins

The same Zahir Raheem that lost to Rocky Juarez. Get the hell out of here.

the same Raheem that dominated Morales while Pacquiao looked on in awe when they read the scorecards, Raheem also called out pacquiao, pacquiao preferred to get morales to drop back down in weight coming off yet another loss to face him rather than fight Raheem.

Lol @ PBC & Floyd boytoys talking about how Pacquiao ducked somebody, how ironic
Ontopic: Guzman was so talented, too bad he was so lazy, could be way bigger...

he got dominated in a couple fights and was gave the dec.

he was knocked out by khabib but they went to the score cards where he lost a split decision on a fight he shouldnt have won more than 2 rounds.

                    glad he's gone
