Comments Thread For: Roach Sees Cotto-Canelo as Fight of The Year Scrap

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes the upcoming fight between Miguel Angel Cotto and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will be a far different fight from the bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, which disappointed a lot of people back on May 2nd.

Cotto, who is trained by Roach, will defend his WBC middleweight title against Canelo on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Good chance it is, both guys have heart and will fight to the end. Too much pride on the line in this one.

Santa Cruz-Mares might give it a run for its money in excitement but the prestige in Cotto-Canelo is much higher.

Apparently neither have you, because from what I remember Margaritto was getting dominated, and walked through a lot of fire landing very little for about 3 quarters of the fight, Canelo doesn't have Margaritto's chin, stamina, or pressure, so if the fight does go that way its a problem for Canelo. And really? Comparing Canelo to Pac? C'mon, I guess you were being sarcastic, because even the casuals won't make such ridiculous comparisons.

I can see this being a great fight but the better fight will be GGG/Lemieux.

Unlike Mayweather who just dance, run and collect. NSAC tolerate their man but did not win the fight on the eyes of many.

Margarito and Pacquiao back then were athletic freaks. I don't rate Canelo too high but I think he's pretty good and should KO Cotto around the 10th but it's likely he will be thoroughly tested by Cotto who will break a fighter down with weak fundamentals. Cotto is one of the most fundamentally sound fighters past 30 years old and Canelo needs to be prepared for a guy who can box/brawl.

Canelo doesn't have supreme stamina or speed to fall on like Margarito and Pacquiao had (Pac in this case had both).

                  Canelo desn't have a chin?

Well, we do not know because he doesn't gets hit as much. He has never been on the canvas. I do believe Canelo is a much better fighter than Margarito.

Canelo is no Pac, no question about that.
