Under goossen Ward was heavily televised since day one, undefeated p4p champ, super six winner, hbo deal with an announcing gig to boot.. And basically had him on the verge of being a true superstar with wins over froch and dawson... But that wasn't good enough for Ward, who sued, and is now fighting on BET or undercards vs lame opponents...

It had everything to do with Goosen renegging on a verbal agreement to give Ward's co-promoter, Antonio Leonard, his share of the promoter's profit after Leonard became licensed in CA.

Ward's the idiot who signed with two promoters (RJJ and Goosen). His contract with Goosen was independent of his contract with Square Ring. Goosen was the one investing money into Ward and making deals on his behalf, it wasn't their fault he signed with another promoter who didn't do anything for him. Ward's principles should've been to take care of Leonard from his end, as the courts in California ruled multiple times.


His best days are behind him because his style doesn't draw fans and he's not ever going to have another situation like the S6 where top guys will come to his hometown to be the B-side. He doesn't have the balls to move up to face Kovalev and he doesn't have them to move down halfway to face Golovkin like Hopkins did for Dela Hoya & Trinidad.

If I'm defending Wilder for picking Duhaupas for a 'stay busy' fight then I guess I can't knock Ward for picking Periban for another tuneup fight. I think Ward is trying to set up a mega fight in 2016 against Golovkin, Kovalev or another big name, and he realizes he needs to stay sharp
