Comments Thread For: Lee Selby-Fernando Montiel in Play For October in U.S.

Sources out of Mexico have advised BoxingScene.com that Lee Selby (21-1, 8KOs) will make the first defense of the IBF featherweight world title against former two-division world champion Fernando Montiel (54-4-2, 39KOs) of Mexico.

The fight is going to take place in the United States, possibly on a date in October, and likely as part of a Premier Boxing Champions card but the network is unknown at the moment.

I still remember the days of Montiel getting serious hype on here before Donaire, after his best win was fellow hypejob Hasagewa. It was cringeworthy. I'll pass on this fight - I can't bring myself to support either one. :yuck:

Montiel is just an old washed up bantamweight who has never done anything at 122 or 126.

Montiel is something of a name at least, I was expecting a complete nobody.

How was Hasagewa a hype job. He defended the bantamweight title 10 times. Montiel is a 3 division champion. Another turd on boxing scene that's knows nothing about boxing.

Fernando doesn't have to worry about a cut, but that's his only consolation. Fighting in America I'm sure that he will take a sufficient beating. He is the challenger so no reason to stop it early, he can bleed all he wants.
