Comments Thread For: Photos: Antonio Tarver, Steve Cunningham Ends in Draw

NEWARK, NJ - Heavyweights Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver (31-6, 22 KOs) and Steve "U.S.S." Cunningham (28-7, 13 KOs) fought to a split decision draw in the main event of tonight's Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Both Tarver and Cunningham fought at a consistent pace throughout the bout, exchanging punches evenly in the early rounds. Tarver caught Cunningham in the fourth round with a sneaky right cross that wobbled the younger fighter who quickly regained his composure and finished out the round. The back and forth action, which left Cunningham bruised and swollen around the eyes, lead to the draw with judges scores of 115-113 Cunningham, 115-114 Tarver and 114-114. [Click Here To Read More]

      Wot fight were you watching.

I saw a boring fight where both were reluctant and both a have seen much better days.

      Draw was the perfect verdict.

Cunningham ahas only been thoroughly shopped once in his career and that was at the hands of Tyson Fury.

Lol Fury said I'ma beat his ass and then bring him in as a sparring partner and that's exactly wot happened.

Now Tarver fighting Haye actually wouldn't be bad. Haye doesn't deserve an opponent above the calibre of Tarver and vice versa.

I'd put money on Tarver catching and sparking Haye actually.

              STEVE CUNNINGHAM
"I'm the man I've always been before and after the fight, and this decision, you won't find me kicking and screaming."
This is right out of the article, bro. But as for his fans well.. I did hear a few people call it a robbery.

USS threw more, landed more, controlled the pace and distance of the fight as well. Tarver got outboxed but his daddy Hymen afforded him a draw so he could have some dignity.

I called it yesterday. I said that it would go to the scorecards and Cunningham fans would decry "robbery."

When will Cunningham and his inept trainer Richardson realize that their usually strategy of boxing and moving doesn't lend itself to good decisions on judges scorecards?

Cunningham was in "touching" Tarver with a lot of punches all night, but he didn't make those punches impressionable to the judges. Steve needs to really sit down and dig in his punches and do some damage. He didn't do that, he never does that and that's why he always comes up short on the scorecards.

Another Cunningham fight ends in a draw or a loss (aka robbery). What a surprise.
