My big bro just hooked it up with some tickets to see Mares vs LSC for my bday. Im pretty damn excited since I've yet to go to a big event like this. What was the first fight card you went to see live? Where was it and how was the atmosphere?

Good ****! a great first fight to attend live!
I was 15 for my first fight. Fernando Vargas vs. Shibata Flores in September 2001 - just after 9/11. My dad was a big Vargas fan back in the day and wanted to take me to see him fight - plus it was an excuse for him to go to Vegas!
Since then I've been to:
Pac - Morales III - crazy atmosphere!
Ward - Miranda
Ward- Kesslar
Ward - Green
Ward - Dawson
Ward - Smith
I'm from the Bay Area if it's not obvious!
Had tickets for Berto v. Ortiz II and Maidana v. Guerrero but both were cancelled b/c of injury.
Went to the Hopkins - Wright weigh in but didn't go to the fight. Was just in Vegas that weekend and made my GF go to weigh ins with me...she's now my wife

The very first fight I went to was an amateur show I won tickets to for knowing Jersey Joe Walcott's real name. Was the Chicago Golden Gloves finals. Got to see Vaughn Bean, Danell Nicholson & Fres Oquendo among others who were fringe contenders or prospects as pros (including future murderer Leonard Townsend).
The first pro show I went to involved top ten HW at the time, Mike Evans vs Bruce Johnson. Show was promoted by Ernie Terrell. There was also a young 140lber named Vinny Letizia fighting on the card who I became a fan of & went to see on future Terrell promoted cards until he was killed about 15 months later on his motorcycle. He was fun as hell to watch & had some pop (16-0-1, 14KO record) & I always kinda wonder how'd he had done vs better guys. RIP Vinny.Comment

When I was about 12, my Dad took me to Carbajal-Gonzalez I at the LV Hilton. I didn't know too much then - i probably kinda knew Carbajal but I can't remember. I mostly recognized refs Mills Lane and Richard Steele and i got their autographs for some reason
it turned out to be a classic fight, FOTY 1993 I think - you'll probably come across the fight once you get into watching older matchups and looking into different fighters.
It was held in the ballroom so all the seats were floor level and I can still remember the view of the ring. Different crowd at that time, not a lot of kids that I saw. No music in between rounds. Smoking was allowed and during the opening bouts you could see a cloud of smoke billowing over the ring because of the low ceiling lol. I learned that scantily dressed women + boxing go hand in hand and still does today. The first celebrity I saw was at that fight: a prime 1993 AC Slater. First boxer I met was there: my dad walked me up to meet Iran Barkley (one of the most intimidating (nice) guys youll ever see).
anyway man, Staples is good for fights too and this is a local matchup so it should be fun
