This is a bad match-up for LSC, his high volume punching lacks the power to keep Mares from countering with something big. When LSC unloaded on Cayetano he barely did any damage, and Mares is levels above anyone on LSC's resume. I can see Mares walking through everything LSC throws at him, bullying him all around the ring, even frustrating him with a few low blows and just wrecking him.

Cruz/mares prediction

This can be the closest to a 50/50 fight as was Hagler vs Leonard or Holyfield vs Bowe. One one hand Leo Santa Cruz is an undefeated fighter w decent power and nobody denies his talents but this will be the first real test of his career.
Mares on the other hand has fought and defeated a number of recognized lineal world champions and has looked great doing it. His only loss is a 1st round KO to hard hitting Johnny Gonzalez. But since then has rattled of a few more impressive victories.

I have flip flopped a few times as to who i am picking but I'm going to go with Abner Mares either by Dec or late stoppage.
