Nigel Benn was actually on the dole at the start of 1987,had no money,no job, nothing to his name. He signed up for Frank Warrens Seconds Out series and by the end of 1987 he was driving around London in a Porsche. Benn had too much too soon,he was going to challenge Michael Nunn in 1988,then the following year Nunn made an offer of £ 3million to fight him (it was soon after his Kalambay win). It was all abit crazy. Nigel was a superstar and celebrity after only one year as a pro boxer, when before that he was nothing. Its no wonder he got so complacent (Logan,Watson).

When Roy Jones jr. turned pro,Benn was 22-0 with 22 KOs. Jones jr. easily beat respectable Roy Amundsen on national TV in America in just his third pro bout and there was talk of Jones jr. challenging for the world jr.middleweight title as early as that but Jones jr.'s dad was very wise (having seen the mistake Benn made) by taking his teenage son right off TV right away and having him fight non-televised bouts in Pensacola for the next few years instead.

I think Vargas rose really quickly, actually to quickly. I think putting in with Trinidad so early in his career damaged him. A good example of guys who took there time could be Calz, Lenox and Pacman. Pacman wasnt really a mega star till he destroyed Barrera. Lewis not only received more acclaim later in his career but I think he also got better as his career went on.

Arthur Abraham is an example of a fighter who rose quickly. He started pro. boxing at the end of 2003 and won his IBF Middleweight title couple months ago. So it took him a little more than 2 years.

gotta say vargas started too early... even though he gave out a good effort against tito... still wish he never fought him so early on in his career...

Shannon briggs rocket to stardom very quickly after lewis he got lost in the shuffle and had little motivation to fight. He has been reincarneted however and looks great feeding off journy men his win over Okine who at the time was considered a solid prospect and an old mercer who can give any heavy trouble were solid wins

Audley Harrison left it way too late, and I feel Miranda is getting rushed.. and Joe Frazier left it later.

Hagler. People dont realise that Marvin Hagler was a pro in 1973,because he didnt start getting recognition until the 1980s.
