BTW, knowledgable fans never mention fight-night weight, because they know it is largely irrelevant, and can even be detrimental..... the total amount of muscle-mass and conditioning that you will take into the fight is determined at the weigh-in.

You also need to learn about fight preparation, and what a camp entails.

FACT: Canelo has never prepared for a middleweight fight.

When he does, he will weigh 160..... 160, you know, middleweight.

Canelo currently weighs 155, Golovkin currently weighs 160.

Many posters here keep repeating here, like some sort of propaganda parrots, what they've heard from fighters, promoters etc when these are making business oriented statements... Honest people (some fans included) know that such statements do not necessarily represent the factual truth, but sheer individual interests only.
Honest fans should only pursue their own interest, which should consist in getting the best possible fights (within a given context), according to the actual rules of the sport.

In the case here we have Golovkin who publicly challenged Martinez, Alvarez, Cotto, Quillin, Lee, Lemieux (at 160), Mayweather (at 154), Chavez, Jr, Ward, Froch (at 168)... From all these above only Ward and Lemieux positively responded -- but only recently... Ward, because of his career low status; Lemieux, apparently because ODLH suddenly forced him... In the given context, Golovkin chose the Lemieux unification fight at 160, which was the natural step to undertake. As Golovkin is now after all the belts at 160, he doesn't have to fight neither Ward nor Lara (who both represent unnecessary risk fights, given his short term goal)...

A CW in a title fight is a private arrangement between the two fighters and their teams, which they must both agree on and add to the contract during negotiations. To the sanctioning body controlling the fight, who's title will be on the line, the CW is irrelevant.

As far as the WBC are concerned, their MW title will be awarded to the winner at the standard weight limit for a MW fight, which is 160lbs.

If you fight for a MW title, you are fighting as a MW, end of story.

A middleweight fight takes place at 160, and has done..... well, forever.

He put these conditions in order not to be fulfilled and then to entitled to say: "... look, I wanted to fight them both, but GGG ducked when I wanted him, therefore I will not fight Kovalev ..." a.s.o.

You are right, and I hope you'll join me in combating this notion that lineal titles are sacred, if you have one, you're the best. They can be even worse than ABC titles. People shouldn't take them at face value, like people took ABC titles back in the day.
