There are fighters like Erislandy Lara and Demetrius Andrade that need belts to get any fight worth a damn. Lara would probably love to get the WBA belt, I think he is Mayweather's mandatory for it.
Keith Thurman was saying in an interview that is you're the "Super" champion you don't have to fight mandatories.
I don't know how true that is but if it true then that just defeats the point of having mandatories in the first place.

Does anyone actually know anymore? Especially with the WBA. They make it up as they go. Yeah, Super Champion Floyd Mayweather wouldn't have to fight mandatories. Super Champion Cesar Rene Cuenca would, though, I'm sure.
Floyd expressed a willingness to drop the titles so I don't think he is too fussed. I get the impression that the decision comes from Al Haymon; it's in their vest interest for Floyd to hold onto the belts until he has other fighters lined up to take them.
It is where the commission should step in and prevent that being an option. Defending Light middleweight titles in a welterweight fight disrespects the competition in the division.
Fair move by Ring. Belt hasn't been defended a 154lb title since the Maidana rematch, and that was a technicality after the fact.
I never thought a boxing fan would be so elated that a titleholder got stripped.
All true boxing fans should be overjoyed when a title is stripped from a champion who is not defending it or has no intention of defending it against his mandatory challenger. Titles belong around the waist of true champions, of fighters who will defend it three or four times each year.
Funny I thought he had the 152 pound ring title. I would never consider him the 154 pound champ unless he actually fought at 154 not some CH1CKEN **** title fight of 152
