  • Comments Thread For: Lucas Browne Will Now Face Long, Larenas is Out

LUCAS "BIG DADDY" BROWNE will now face giant American Julius "Towering Inferno" Long next Friday night (August 14) due to Icho Larenas pulling out as a result of legal problems.

Larenas was himself a replacement for Gonzalo Basile, but Hatton Promotions' international matchmaker Philippe Fondu received word late on Thursday that it was unlikely that the Canadian former MMA star would be allowed to leave Argentina, where he is now based. [Click Here To Read More]

I expect nothing but a KO from Browne.

Browne's manager says Long is a huge man (true) who is "very, very durable." So durable that he lasted all the way into round two before being scythed down and rendered unconscious by renowned pacifist Audley Harrison in what was only Harrison's 4th pro appearance. That's a fair measure of Long's chin. Can't blame Lucas Browne for the match, though. Even though he's not all that good himself I reckon he really would fight anybody.

Long has won one fight in eight years and lost 11 of his last 12. Nothing more than a punching bag. Browne's original opponent, Basille, was a 41-year-old KO waiting to happen, and his previous opponent, Welliver, was a softy too. Is Browne just fighting nobodies until somebody gives him a title fight because of his pretty record?

Browne is wasting his career with these meaningless fights and inactivity. He should be fighting 3-4 times a year against B level competition until he lands a title shot.

A good stay busy fight until he wins the WBA title, good work.

Is the problem that he is an avoided fighter?

He's been inactive awaiting a resolution on his next opponent plus he's mandated for the WBA regular title. At this point he needs activity and camps, it's poor yet I expect he'll fight another nobody after this while sitting on the WBA.

I dont rate Browne at all but he deserves his WBA mandate, so he needs to stay busy until.

I don't think he's an avoided fighter. He shouldn't be, he's got glaring flaws in his game.

Browne/Hatton have wasted too much time and energy chasing Chagaev for that ****** WBA "regular" title shot. Chagaev now has to face Quendo as his mandatory. God knows, when they fight will get made.

Browne should be facing guys like Manny Charr, Erkan Teber, Chisora, Ustinov.

The belt brings with it the finances of holding 75/25 over the challenger, it'll be worth the wait if he can beat Ruslan, will he beat him ? I very much doubt it.

For me Browne is an exceptionally limited fighter, hence why we're seeing these fights versus Long and Basille. He should keep calling out the guys he has been doing, he could drop lucky landing one of Fury or Wilder, doubtful yet eventually if he's to actually win the regular title those guys could end pursuing him after they've been beaten by the champ.

I think at this point it's important he stays undefeated another fight may present itself without having to face Chagaev, it's looking like it could be a long wait on the Uzbek.
