Because often in boxing, hype jobs get exposed everyday. They get protected and come up the easy way and get exposed so badly at some point for what they really are. MMA is more systematic where as when you win you fight the guy in front of you and you rinse and repeat until you get to the top. You could lose 5-10 fights on the way but when you get to the top you're proven and you've fought literally EVERYONE. Sometimes TWICE.
FACT.
Yep. Boxers & MMA guys are moved completely differently. In MMA the cream rises to the top quickly cuz you are put into competitive fights or at least perceived competitive fights each time out. In boxing the cream just sorta hangs out for a couple years & assuming they've gotten with good management team or a good promoter within another couple years they can be steered towards the top.
Randomly I think guys like Loma, Rigo & Beterbiev have shown maybe that old school 4-5 years from pro debut to a title shot method might be played out & I hope boxing starts become more like MMA in that way.

So you think Sonnen should've fought Jon Jones right after being knocked out by Anderson Silva?
Amir Khan? Most? Who are you kidding, RR? In fact, most don't want to see Floyd fight Amir Khan. At least not until Amir Khan earns a fight with Floyd. Most want to see Amir Khan fight Kell Brook - a fight which Amir Khan will most likely lose by knockout.
So you think Sonnen should've fought Jon Jones right after being knocked out by Anderson Silva?
Wow, you're using the one off as the example here?
But to humor you, Sonnen had tough fights with great fighters including Anderson Silva prior to fighting Jon Jones.
We already know Sonnen had a mouth to sell fights that people would pay for. We also know he was a decent scrapper who held his own against the best.
Berto is neither a.) Charismatic b.) Having a history of fighting elite level opposition that would indicate he could hang with Floyd.
That's the problem here, boxing screwed this fight not Berto. Boxing kept Berto from ever getting the experience he would need for Mayweather. At least not from what we have seen. We can only hope he suprises us.
Berto might have been ok if he wasn't your last fight, as he isn't going to make you TBE is he?
Also if you didn't say you was going to fight in England at some point or keep making people believe you was going to fight khan. Khan put his career on hold for you, denying brooks fight with khan as a result.
But khan can come after your rematch with Pac for your 51st win. Still a bit short of Julio Cesar Chavez before you are mentioned in his breath.
lol Mayweather trying reaally hard to defend this ish
Would be less embarassing to just say hey I wanted an light touch for my farewell fight, but then he had to go and try to sell us on the idea that this fight is something other than a complete mismatch and is worth paying $75 for which is insulting.
