Comments Thread For: Khytrov Claims Stomach Issues, Brinson Upset With Ref

ATLANTIC CITY - Undefeated power-punching middleweight and 2012 Olympian, Ievgen “The Ukrainian Lion” Khytrov (11-0, 10 KOs) of Brooklyn, N.Y. by way of Ukraine, scored an eight-round TKO over daring Nick “The Machine Gun” Brinson (17-4-2, 7 KOs) of Geneva, N.Y. with a devastating flurry of power punches at 2:31 of the final round.

Khytrov got his toughest test to date from Brinson, who dominated the early rounds with good lateral movement, consistent combinations to the body and strong jabs. But the Ukrainian picked up the pace and although he appeared to be frustrated in the middle rounds with his inability to finish his opponent, he continued to exert pressure.

Brinson was winning the fight on the scorecards, but I am not sure why. I had him down 2 points before the knockdown. A rematch would be good though.

The scorecards were criminal. One judge had Nick winning all 7 rounds when he got destroyed in the 7th round. To think Brinson would've won that decision had the ref not stopped it is an absolute JOKE. Round 7 and around 8 were 10-8 rounds to Kyhtrov. And he also clearly won round 6. That's +5 pts right there in an 8 round fight. Such a farce.

This is boxing, there's no time outs. It's the ref's discretion and given the damage Brinson took in rounds 6-8, it was a justifiable and earned stoppage.

Honestly that could've been stopped well before he took a knee, he was getting his head snapped back and not punching back.

He basically won because his opponent has horrible stamina. He was getting schooled early with his cement feet.

Scorecards should've been drawish scorecards. BS stoppage.

Did you watch the fight? Did you not see all the body punches Brinson took, while putting out a lot of energy to keep Khytrov at bay in the first 5 rounds?

And how the hell was that a bad stoppage? You need to see someone killed? Brinson was getting his head snapped back hard in retreat without fighting back. Ref could've stopped it seconds before he took a knee.

I believe Khytrov. He didn't look good even coming into the ring and the first couple of rounds proved it.

Everybody has an off night and he got through his.

Bad stoppage but I'm glad they did to avoid the robbery. I had it scored 4-4 with two 10-8 rounds, those scores were a joke.
