A lot of you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick, let me clarify. He knows he's lost so I doubt he's talking about a promise made in 2013. He is talking about last year where Haymon presumably told him a Mayweather fight is coming so he signed with Haymon however Lucas was fed up of getting Molina and Ortiz (not even a title shot) and as a result left Al. He's commenting on last year and not 2013. He's a smart guy, he knows he lost to Garcia and had to rebuild, I watch every move (and interview) Lucas makes and there's no reason to assume he's talking about an old promise.

If you are being honest, impressive or career defining wins got almost all of Mayweather's opponents their shot post De La Hoya & its not even arguable if you are not being a hater.

And Matthysse surely would have been on the short list if he'd beaten Garcia. He didn't so he wasn't. Garcia was on the shortlist, but he didn't seem to give a damn about the fight & sat on his hands so that fights actual winner wasn't destined for Mayweather obviously, but the winner easily could have turned it into a shot with a quick move up to 147 & a good W over a Berto or better caliber opponent it would seem.
