Comments Thread For: Lucas Matthysse Aims To Capture His First World Title

Despite his fearsome reputation and solid resume', Lucas Matthysse has actually never held a major belt at 140 pounds. He will try to eradicate that on October 3rd at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, when he faces Victor Postol for the vacant WBC super lightweight title as the main event on HBO's 'Boxing After Dark'.

This is a very tough fight for both guys.

I dont think Postol has the experience but he has the skills.

Postol is a very good boxer but not only that, he's also a long dude that can present a lot of problems for Matthysse.

One of the few things Matthysse got going for him is that Postol might lack the pop to keep Matthysse off of him. But he's been thru hell so he'll go thru whatever to get to Postol.

Hard to believe he never won a title.

This fight all comes down to whether Postol can maintain his distance and keep Lucas at range.

Only due to politics. WBC or WBA didn't/wouldn't unify with the IBF so the Matthysse-Peterson fight was made at a 141 catchweight.

Postol is a very good pure boxer but Matthysse is a different kettle of fish. Viva La Maquina! KO in 7! And hopefully we get Pacquiao next year

We acknowledge that but as a fighter I know that's gotta be a huge motivation. What we see as paper belts, they see as something they work their whole lives for.

It would be a real shame if Matthysse ended his career without a title. Matthysse has decisively beaten Soto, Provodnikov and Peterson, all former titlists but he could never win one.

I think he loses to Postol btw.
