Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Promoter Disappointed Beterbiev Took a Pass

Kathy Duva expressed her disappointment Wednesday to fellow promoter Yvon Michel regarding his decision to pass on her offer for his undefeated fighter, Artur Beterbiev, to challenge Sergey Kovalev, the unbeaten light heavyweight champion her company promotes.

Duva made what she and Michel agree was a fair offer for a light heavyweight title bout between the Russian knockout artists, which would’ve taken place Nov. 28 in Russia. Michel publicly expressed interest in the fight last week, despite that Beterbiev is managed by Al Haymon.

I know that you find the word "ducking" overused, but that's kinda what arturs people are doing. Kovalev has 3 belts, and he's giving Artur the chance to rise to the top of the division in just one fight, and what's their response? "Naaa,we'll just take another fight. Thanks for the offer though".

The lady has a point this time. I can see waiting to cash out Stevenson because he's at the end stages of his career, but Beterbiev should be jumping at this opportunity. The whole fasting excuse probably has some merit to it but that shouldn't stop him from taking the fight.

9-0. Too early, let him have his pro fights first.

Watch. Once again some fans will blame Duva and Kovalev and not Yvon Michel and Beterbiev for this fight not being made. The only question now is if Beterbiev will continue to shoot off his mouth about wanting to fight and beat Kovalev as he did in the amateurs.

I eagerly await the purse bid. Duva will pull Kovalev out again. That will be two paydays and two legacies fights that the c*nt will have robbed Kovalev of.

The disappointing thing about all this is that people [in that thread], and myself, actually believed Yvon's posturing. He released this well-thought-out statement that clearly stated he was genuinely willing and ready to negotiate, only to receive an offer and then say, "we're actually not going to negotiate." Twat.

beterbiev is 30 years old with a big amateur record and claimed he had kovalev's number

stevenson is 37 years old and presumably nearing retirement

what are they waiting for exactly
