Don't forget that Floyd and Pacquiao both showed vulnerability earlier in their careers. It's those fights that molded them and gave them that championship-caliber experience. One of these elite fighters you see today will emerge in similar fashion.
Hopefully that will be the case, but in order for that to happen several prospects need to adjust their current attitudes towards potential opponents. They absolutely must discard this "He doesn't bring anything to the table" mentality and just accept that any quality opponent will get them that much closer to stardom.

Whenever Floyd and Manny do retire, they will leave a financial void and many that were hoping to win that lottery ticket can pretty much kiss that possibility goodby. Fighters as a consequence will have to accept that only their peers will bring in the better paychecks going forward. And will eventually dismiss the attitudes that is hampering their careers.

That stated, it will be a blessing in disguise when the current superstars retire, because then and only then will the circumstance be such that will force the next crop of stars to really start challenging themselves to be great.

I think US boxing will go dark a lil bit once Pacquiao & Mayweather retire.

There doesn't seem all that much to be excited about for Americans outside of Thurman & Spence & they are still works in progress who could still sink or swim at the elite level. And its difficult for non-US boxers to gain mainstream popularity & the guys seemingly most capable of being that non-US boxer to get some Pacquiao type following are in unattractive divisions. The reason Pacquiao was able to get so popular in the US is cuz he had to go through a murderers row of top fighters many of whom are or will be in the HOF.

Having said that boxing looks in solid to great shape outside of the US. Boxing is always doing good in Mexico. Canada seems to be having a good run. The UK boxing scene makes me wish I was in the UK. They got 20 fight marathon shows that I'd love to go to & seem to have quite a few elite level guys these days.

Terence Crawford will cash that Pacquiao ticket, though. That's the Top Rank way.

UFC will probably takeover for good in the 5 years years especially if Mcgregor and Rousey keep winning in devastating fashion.

I wish I would have bookmarked the thread when the guy posted a article from the 50s about how boxing was dying. I'll be the first to admit it'll be at least a decade before two fighter are the level of Mayweather and Pacquiao and in the same division but the sport will go on. Plus it's the some of the less talented guys who give you the most exciting fights.

People who claim boxing has been dieing don't know anything about the history of the sport. Boxing has died many times to come back and reign as the biggest sport to drop back down again to be critized about the "death" of boxing. When Ali left, Holmes took over boxing was dead and then a little man from New York named Mike Tyson came around bring the sport back to its prime. Tyson went down and De La Hoya came around. It's a circle!

I refuse to be another moron to believe boxing is or will die. Boxing is more than just the current money makers. It infuriates me the fact people think boxing is Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquioa. Fact is, they have been far from prime for years, far from the best fights available. Fans, Journalist, or just straight flyby fans, you say boxing will or is dieing you don't know sh** about boxing period... Whether you have credentials or not, you don't know sh**!

Have you guys ever thought about how bad it is for boxing to have the most boring fighter in the sport also occupying the p4p #1 spot and headlining the largest events

Boxing will be better off when the ambassador exposing boxing to new/casual fans doesn't spur mass mockery and UFC chanting after every fight
