Back when Golovkin was still fighting in Panama and wasn't settled in the US it would have been a close fight. I would still pick this version of Golovkin because for all the craft Pirog had, he wasn't throwing enough and not a very hard puncher either.

Pirog was a huge underdog who got paid 50 grand to be cannon fodder for what was supposed to be Jacob's first title. A few mediocre defenses later, he retired due to injury. Tricky defense and decent power, but I hardly think he warrants a "GGG without the hype" moniker.

Hmm, not sure if he had that much hype building! You're basing this off him knocking Danny Jacobs (Who was being hyped, mainly because he was aamerican) the **** out! He beat some nondescript fighters and Ishida after that and ducked Golovkin like the plague!

He was a awkward, solid talent that had some power and but I don't think he posed too much of a threat to Golovkin! In my opinion, Golovkin takes him out late! I don't think he's as durable as Martin Murray

An inability to stop Ishida translates into an inability to outbox GGG? Really?

Healthy Pirog is the only guy at 160 who had a chance at beating GGG.
Healthy Pirog isn't walking through those doors

Where do you dummies get this ****?
If Pirog had faked a back injury and ducked GGG back in 2012, don't you think he'd have fought again by now?
He injured a disc in his back before the Maciel fight and re-injured it training for the GGG fight.
              He is now retired

Pirogs is very smart and his inside game was far more superior than GGG's, so i think he would have won early rounds, but since we dont know much about his chin (he never been KD, but he also never fought punchers like GGG), so late rounds could have become very interesting. Anyways it could have been one of the best match ups in todays boxing and GGG would be a favorite, i think...
