Does the Cruiserweight division really need to exist?

After watching the PBC Cruiserweight card the other night, I had some deep thoughts about how ****ty the Cruiserweight division has always been. A few good fighters have gone through it from time to time, and even a half decent fight or two, but as far as I know it has never been anything but a waypoint between real divisions. It is either guys too fat and lazy to make 175 or half ass heavyweights who are too shy to hang with the big boys. It doesn't even feel like a legit division and every time I notice that it is the weight class of a fight I'm about to watch, I shrug my soldiers and tune out.

Is it just me, or is the Cruiserweight division a joke? Would anyone miss it?

Yes, it is necessary to fill the gap between 175 and heavy.

No, it has failed to be an interesting division since its inception.

I don't even pay attention to that division. Nothing interesting in it.

It's basically where all the in shape heavyweights ply their trade at. Take Wlad out of the equation and these guys are all contending for titles at heavyweight (not including Shumenov & Flores, who both suck.)

Agreed, and as far as I know, it has always been that way.

That is a good point. Good Cruiserweights can be players at heavy and it is invariably more interesting when they try.

Most LHWs are 185-190 fight night. HW contenders are 230+. That's the biggest spread in boxing by far. So yeah, it seems necessary.

Dan_Cov might want to have a word with you.

Too bad the votes aren't public for us to see these "pretend" fans who think Cruiser division is not interesting.

Take the cruiser weight division out, make 210 plus HW and below 210 light HW !To distribute the divisions better create a super heavyweight division of 225 and over .

i really like cruiserweight, it just doesn't get much western coverage since we have no horses in the race

with the massive size gaps at heavyweight there are those who argue we need a 225 lbs division or some such.. so i dont think cruiser is going anywhere

I hate the Cruiserweight division. A very uninteresting division. Last interesting fighter to fight there was James Toney.

Any real boxing fan knows CW is an awesome division with tons of great young talent and veterans. So many great fights to be made.

                    But they aren't American doe!
