Pacquiao won, and that's very clear by now. I remember we agreed on it during the last show. You said you even had it by 1 round for Pacquiao on your second viewing but then changed it.

Look, there's a reason why floyd is asking for the rematch. Major sites and most people re-scored the fight and had Manny winning with one arm.

Maybe it is more accurate to say careers are "planned" even if fights aren't necessarily rigged, I don't know.
Okay, but even then there's an A side and a B side to Haymon's fights. He doesn't seem as desperate as a smaller promoter such as Main Events, that cant afford ANY setbacks. I've seen Haymon take it on the chin sometimes, when the B guy upsets the A. No judge rigging, and he just goes back to the drawing board. Other times, you get judges that seemed to watch a different fight .

I'm not talking negatively of Haymon, I'm just saying he's like any other promoter surviving in the jungle that is boxing. Do unto other before they do unto you.

If you were going to rig a fight you would only need to buy off two judges.

Of course it's rigged. It's a huge business and like any business, there's a lot of crooks and politics and money involved. Put those things together and you get a lot of dirty tactics.

Whichever guy is giving them the better business opportunity will have everything swung in his favour. To us on the outside we see it as rigged, to those inside it's just protecting investments and generating more business.

They would have robbed Floyd blind against Canelo if it wasn't so one sided because they thought the was the future $$$, one tried to anyway. It was that one sided and in front of a world wide audience that it would have done more damage than good.

Look at Arum, he robbed Pacquiao who he is supposed to love to try and get his other guy Bradley over to be a star which never worked out but it could at least build a rematch where he pockets from both guys. That guy is a serious crook and doesn't care what he does as long as he benefits.

That is, who participates? Do the fighters take a dive? Do the promotors pay the judges? Do the networks decide? Has there ever been any proof discovered?

The thing is, I don't doubt it happens but the truth never seems to come to light. So it's all unsubstantiated, but I'd like to be wrong.

yes the judges are paid by the promoter. in case anybody was ever curious about this.

Boxing can certainly be rigged. The best example of that is the Khan vs Peterson fight. A ref who corruptly deducted 2 points off Khan, a judge who's scorecard was illegally crossed out and changed, a man (not an official) who was seen illegally handling the judges scorecards during the fight, and when months after the fight Peterson was discovered to be the cheater, the IBF themselves, a sanctioning body, allowed Peterson to keep the belt even though he admitted he cheated.

That's got to be the clearest example of how boxing can be rigged because it involved many different elements - ref, judges, sanctioning body.

Another very clear example is the Danny Williams vs Konstantin Airich fight where Airich's promoter actually rung the bell to end the round well before it had reached 3 minutes (I think it was under 2 minutes) because his fighter was being battered by Williams and looked on the verge of being stopped. Instead, the round ended early after the promoter rang the bell and no one said anything. Promoter returned to his seat, the fighters went to their stools and the fight continued as if nothing happened. Entertaining fight though, worth watching.

People have thrown fights in the past (and have been caught), but I think the rigging is more subtle nowadays.

Especially when you have blatant non-competitive mismatches.
Everyone basically knows who will win and the fight is set up as a showcase for the up and coming fighter.

As far as judging, it's sometimes hard to tell if a judge is incompetent or he was on someone's payroll.

Generally speaking, if someone is going to throw a fight, they do it early to minimize the variables involved such as the winner getting cut, pulling a shoulder, breaking a hand, and other weird stuff that happens.

Most fights I think are on the level.
