I have to agree with your assessment of Vernon. I do believe that Vernon was somewhat 1 dimensional. If he couldn't control the range he was acceptable to big punches. He carried his left hand low and could get countered. Pacquiao's speed and in and out movement would've gave Vernon a lot problems, wouldn't go the distance. foresure. Not sure how Vernon and Floyd would play out but Vernon's long arms and jab would've gave Floyd problems. I think Floyd would be able to land his straight right all night.
Where would a prime Vernon Forrest be in todays WW division?

I never like to count Manny out of a scrap but Mannys like 5'6" & Vernons 6' with a 73" reach and unlike the other tall guys Manny faced, forrest could crack & he was athletic, it really would be a pick em fight & if I had to bet a paycheck Id go with Forrest. As for Forrest vs Mayweather, itd be interesting to see how Floyd wouldve done against a guy with quick hands and a longer reach. Floyd would have to move his legs for sure, Id lean towards Floyd because i think hed figure a way out, but I think forrest wouldve knocked him down...I have to agree with your assessment of Vernon. Vernon was an exceptional boxer who was just caught off guard by the awkward style and power of Mayorga, often clean crisp boxers react badly to a herky-jerky awkward style, I've seen it happen many times. And Mayorga was incredibly strong and hit like a freight train.Comment

This is one of the absolute worst eras in the history of the welterweight division; it's two top fighters for the last five years have been a pair of aging, feather-fisted, safety-first, blown-up lightweights. I'm not convinced that Maurice Blocker wouldn't clean up shop in this era, quite frankly.
And for the record, Mayorga got a gift in the rematch. He did not legitimately win that fight under any fair and impartial circumstances.Comment
