I'm not gonna destroy any fighter over losing one fight. Like I said, At the level Forrest was at, a guy like Mayorga wasn't something he was use to.

Guys like Mayorga and Maidana aren't suppose to be at this level. So when they get there you think it's an easy fight, but despite being completely technically wrong, they know what there doing, and terrible technique, actually makes them tricky in a lot of ways.

Look at how many guys underestimated Maidana time and time again. Everyone who fought him thought he Would be easy.

That's why it's the "sweet science."
I get what you're saying and don't really disagree. I just feel that Forrest was lacking something internally. Even if his skill set/physical talent was above what we have now, that lacking would still be his demise in my eyes. He had courage and heart, but he was lacking the motor of a great/dominant fighter. Might not be much of an argument, but that is where I come down.

Vernon Forrest was a top boxer in his time. How did he lose to Mayorga twice was life greatest mysteries. Guess styles do really makes fights.

I think Shane Mosley gonna beat Mayorga in their upcoming fight and it will make a triangle where Forrest beat Mosley twice, Mayorga beat Forrest twice then Mosley coming back and beat Mayorga twice.

I would completely agree which is why the Mosley fight was the highlight of his career, when it should of just been the the beginning.

I think once he accomplished that he pretty much put his career on cruise control. He was one of these guys who had been boxing at a high level since he was a kid, maybe he just burned out?

He reached the top level, was rich, people loved him, he had a famous wife, and I think he just decided that was good enough.

Kind of unrelated but here's Forrest vs Kostya in the amateurs.

Even at 19 you could see just how good Forrest was and would become, but at that time Kostya was just too damn good. Both were beautiful boxers, this is what good boxing is suppose to look like, not this running, holding bs boxing has become.

That was cool bro, thanks for adding that. A rangy guy fighting a guy that wont stop coming, skill vs will not ring post to ring post while I chase you aimlessly. Id say post it as a thread on NSB but someone would say something ignorant about that scrap...

Top 3 welterweight.. Vernon had the perfect attributes at welterweight. Not lightning quick but fast in his own right. Power wasn't One Punch KO Power but his punching power was always underrated due to his style. He was skilled as well. I'm not sure how Vernon would do against Floyd but I would say better than 99% of his opposition. Pacquiao and Vernon would have been a war at Welterweight and I think that could easly go 50-50.

Vernon was an underrated fighter, and unfortunately did not get as much recognition till his passing. If Vernon were still alive and fighting, presumably at Welterweight or junior Middleweight; he would with out a doubt be a title holder and a top 3 in that weight class!

I agree, but I've seen NSB members refute that Forrest was anything other than a 'pure boxer'. See for yourself (LINK)
