  • Comments Thread For: Leo Santa Cruz Expects To Reach 140-Pound Title

On August 29th at the Staples Center in Carson, California, undefeated Leo Santa Cruz (30-0-1, 17KOs) will start his quest for a third divisional title when he faces hometown rival Abner Mares (29-1), a former three division world champion.

Santa Cruz, 26-years-old, is not planning to stop at 126-pounds. He wants to continue moving up the ranks, climbing up in weight, and capturing plenty of world titles along the way. If everything goes as planned, he wants to eventually reach the junior welterweight division.

I can see him beating an insurance broker at 130 but any casual labourers at 135 or above will be too much for him.

Your power is already average at 122 and 126... good luck being a mini Margarito with no power.

That's crazy but I support Leo a 100%!! A good weight warming opponent would have been DeMarco at 140 but apparently the guy is done. Another good opponent would be Omar Figueroa. WAR LEOOOO!!!!!

he means A title, that is he'll go from one division to another fighting sparring partners, avoiding any risk of any type and will probably get a rubber title in every division

It's going to take a major cherry pick just to nab him a 126 title. I'd be surprised if he could beat even top 10 contenders at 130.

I'd say he has the frame to fight there, but his punching power is already questionable at these smaller divisions. Plus, take into account his pressure style, he'd get murked at those weight classes easy. Hell, he's probably gonna get wrecked soon enough at 126.
