Actually Garcia became a star after he beat Khan. His following on social media is more than most, it's the reason why Khan didn't want to fight Brook before because beating Khan would propel most fighters to new levels of stardom as it did for DSG.

I think the Herrera fight killed all his momentum

Because becoming a "star" means you have to have crossover appeal. Most people don't give a damn about Khan or Lucas. I'd say pretty much nobody outside boxing fans has heard of Lucas Matthysse.

Plus even if Khan was kind of well known, people always thought his chin wasn't great, so when Danny iced him everyone was just like "Khan has no chin anyway". Which will always be the case if someone knocks out Khan now, they will never get full credit.

To become a star you would need to beat a real star in style, such as knocking out Mayweather or Pacquiao. Marquez wasn't much of a star because he'd already been robbed vs Pacquiao and some people thought he was better anyway so the shine was taken off it a bit, plus he was already very experienced. But if a young fighter had come along and flattened him like that then they would have had more crossover appeal into the general public.

Apart from a few fighters, the general public don't know anything about boxers or boxing these days so it's almost impossible to become a star. The average man on the street has never heard of GGG, Thurman, Kovalev etc.. I'd dare say most people wouldn't even know who someone like Cotto is or could name the heavyweight champions of the world. Outside of Mayweather and Pacquiao there is nobody really known by the public, only boxing fans.

Pretty much. For a brief moment, he was on the verge. Then Herrera clowned him.

He should have lost to Herrera and barely beat Peterson. That and the fact he fought Salka didn't help his momentum.

Cross-Eyed Halfwits don't really have Superstar Appeal.
